Aeration is complete
Aeration was just completed on the Gold Course last week.
• Aeration is completed in the spring and fall to remove and dilute organic matter that that is deposited from seasonal turf growth in the upper part of the soil profile.
• When organic matter is wet it acts like a sponge, expanding and holding water keeping the playing surfaces soft.
• When the organic matter dries out it becomes repellent to water and starves the Turfgrass roots of water, oxygen and nutrients.
• Too much organic matter is not healthy for turf growth. An adequate amount provides resiliency to the playing surfaces.
• To ensure we are maintaining the proper balance of organic matter in our playing surfaces core sampling is completed for testing through a certified scientific laboratory. This process comparable to having blood work done for your annual physical.
• Research has shown that organic matter less than 3% are acceptable for putting green surfaces. Organic levels between three and five percent may indicate a potential problem.
• Prior to this aeration our organic matter level was 3.15%.
Sediment Removal starting this week
We have begun removing sediment from the pond to the right 10 Gold fairway. The pond has become very shallow as sediment from the streams running onto the clubs property is deposited in the pond. We will be removing approximately 4 feet of sediment which will improve the health of this pond. This work will take about two weeks to complete. Divers will vacuum the sediment through a powerful vacuum and deposit the sediment in a large sediment bag that is located along the woods to the right of 13 gold green. The sediment will be allowed to dry for a couple of months. Once the sediment is dry the material will be recycled and used as topsoil.

Congressional will host a PGA Jr League Golf team this year! Join today.
PGA Junior League Golf (PGA JLG) is designed to bring a “Little League” atmosphere to the game of golf. With teams of boys and girls, ages 13 to 9, PGA JLG provides a structured league environment for young golfers to compete and have fun! This is a great way to get and keep kids involved in the game! There is no individual scoring in PGA JLG. The two-player scramble format allows for all participants to feel connected with the team. Strong play is rewarded, while a poor shot does not lose the hole. Players of all skill levels are welcome and will contribute to the team’s success.
The Junior Golf League is $215 for the season. Juniors will receive a team shirt, team hat, three practice sessions and six matches.
