St. Bonaventure cross country/track rising senior Kyle Haller is spending the summer working as the Philanthropy Intern at the YMCA of the Rockies based in Colorado.

During his internship, he is working on planning, organizing, and marketing nonprofit campaigns and events for the organization.

Haller poses with a YMCA statue outside his office for the summer.

Located in Estes Park, Colorado, YMCA of the Rockies puts Christian principles into practice through programs, staff and facilities in an environment that builds healthy spirit, mind and body for all. YMCA of the Rockies offers traditional summer camp experiences for boys and girls of varying ages and organizes activities including archery, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, rafting and more.

Haller on what he is learning during his internship:

"I have been helping out planning, organizing, and marketing some of their nonprofit campaigns and events in every way imaginable. I chose this internship as I came out here last summer with my family and was somewhat familiar with the area. Also, my former teammate Christian (Gravius) worked here last summer and he strongly encouraged me to apply. What I like most about my internship is that every day I am doing something different and unique so it never gets boring, and also a huge plus is that the scenery out here is breathtaking!"
While learning valuable skills for a potential future job, Haller's internship also offers some unforgettable scenery.

How will this internship help you in the future?

"I think this internship will help me in the future as it has given me a glimpse into the nonprofit world, which has been something I’ve been somewhat interested in. I'm also getting a feel for how life is out West in case an opportunity presented itself in the future where I could work/live out here one day!"

Haller competed in the 800 and 1500 meters during the track season and ranks seventh in the program's individual times record list (2:05.91) in the 800. He also represented the program in the 1500 at the Atlantic 10 Championships. He competed in every event during cross country season last fall, finishing in the team's top seven four times. An Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection each of his three years with the program, he will be in his fourth year with the Bona running program this fall.
