RS TRIESTE 2021

Academic Vision

Hello,

If you’re reading this it means that you are to some extent interested in joining Trieste 2021 so first of all, thank you! I do hope you enjoy skimming through my vision. With physical and hybrid sessions slowly making an appearance, you may be wondering why you should be applying to Trieste, what makes this session all that special?

Well, the easy answer would be: the existing team and our visions. But I will get into a bit more detail about the academic vision which will be focusing on three pillars:

  • Bringing unity
  • Rethinking approaches
  • Welfare

Bringing Unity

(Hopefully) meeting in person again, we want to ensure that people get to connect and get to know those around them. This academic team, will provide with more than enough chances for all members to share their experiences and bond on a deeper level, through official and otherwise team activities.

Trieste is a multicultural city taking pride in it’s diversity. Thus, Trieste RS will be a melting pot of perspectives and ideas. A session where inter-team activities will not be a void promise but will slowly realise in the months leading to and during the event. Our goal within the leadership is for people to be able to recognise each other and if possible (and wanted) know more than just the name of all officials.

Rethinking Approaches

No one can deny that the past digital year and a half taught us. I want the academic team to move forward learning from and developing those experiences. I can promise that all members of the academic team will have the opportunity to learn how to use digital tools and incorporate them into a physical event understanding the accessibility issues that may arise. Pre-session, will definitely have a lot of “digital session” aspects, making sure that the session is a small part of people’s lives and not just a 3 day vacation in Northern Italy.

Elaborating a bit more, with the resolution format slowly changing, maybe it is time to rethink our past processes. Many before me have said that there is no right or wrong way to chair a committee. Together, through trainings and discussions we will help you discover the chairing style and methods most suited to you, your own skills and creative mind.

Welfare

In Trieste we understand that it has been a difficult year for all and that less restrictions do not mean the pandemic has fully ended and the past is forgotten. For some of you this may be the first EYP event after the pandemic or the first EYP event overall. Nonetheless, we want to make it a positive experience starting from the preparation. In the months leading up to Trieste we will make sure to communicate any tasks and responsibilities well in advance, figure out timelines which work for everyone and help alleviate the stress of deadlines. With pre-established emotional buddy groups and my offer for pre-session personal hangouts I want to ensure that everyone within the academic team will have a proper support mechanism not only for their academics but also emotional needs. The same approach will be maintained during the session, with enough free time away as well as modules addressing welfare and how to protect it across your teams and for yourself.

Media Vision

Dear potential applicants,

The Media Team of RS Trieste’21 shall be a hub for individuals aiming to undertake new adventures. Bearing in mind the session theme “Rethinking the future of Europe: Unity for a more integrated society” as well as the fact that the event is going to be held in physical format, the Media Team’s focus will be on exploring new opportunities and rethinking existing ones.

There are a couple of essential topics to be introduced:

  • Rethinking the approach to the media output
  • Inter-team (Academic) collaboration
  • Welfare & Wellbeing

Rethinking the approach to the media output

It has been a while since we have implemented the very last fully physical session before the pandemic. After almost two years, we have learned fully new perspectives of the Media Teams. Digital Sessions gave us an issue to think about, that has been tackled very successfully. However, it is up to us to embrace new opportunities and rethink our approach to the Physical Media teams.

For the Media Team of RS Trieste’21, I envision practising various ways to operate within the team as well as manage projects. As we have already seen all sorts of Media Projects, there is the need of finding new links and exploring the unknown. Here comes a great use of the Session Theme and the history of the city itself. The session is all about unity and Trieste is itself a connection point of people with different backgrounds. Thus, appreciating these settings and searching for new links shall lead the Media Team to a somewhat unique approach.

Additionally, there is the need of having a strong emphasis on the team itself. Thinking outside of the box, brainstorming and introducing fresh ideas works better while working as a team. Therefore, RS Trieste’s Media Team will be a place for everyone, with and without previous EYP media experience, to try things out, bring new ideas, enjoy their time to the fullest and generally make the most out of the experience!

Inter-team Academic collaboration

Looking at EYP session teams, there is the need to the realisation that they are not isolated islands, but a group of talented individuals gathered around the same goal. Bearing that in mind, I believe it is important to create a strong bond between the teams and especially try to engage in Academic Team, with the purpose of ensuring the best learning opportunity for delegates. With the Chairpersons, MTMs can work in the pre-session period, as well as during the event’s dates to craft a welcoming environment for delegates.

Welfare & Wellbeing

Being a Media Team Member happens to be pretty challenging. Especially on physical sessions, MTMs juggle between working on projects, taking pictures & videos, spending time with the committee and actually enjoying the session. All the above-mentioned can be overwhelming at times. Therefore, I would aim for the RS Trieste’s Media Team to manage work differently. Starting from projects, MTMs shall be encouraged to work in groups on less but bigger projects to ensure that they are feeling supported at all times, and acknowledge that we are all together seeking the same output. All while the Editorial Team will be kept as a focal point in case of any sort of assistance. To sum up, balancing work and rest is essential to appreciate & enjoy the experience to the fullest!
