Prosper Band News July 25, 2021

A Note from Mr. Holt

What a great beginning to the 2021 marching band season!!! It was so great to see all of our students back on campus and they are working hard. This next week is the beginning of 2 full weeks of intensive rehearsals being held 3 times a day.

Both the morning and evening block rehearsals will be hosted outside while it is the coolest and the afternoon block for all groups will be inside. Students should continue to bring a sack lunch due to the relatively short turn around time in between the morning and afternoon block. Students will be released after the afternoon block to go home, eat dinner and rest until the evening block begins at 6:00pm.

Please arrive early so you are in place and on time for each rehearsal. “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, to be late is unacceptable.” We suggest that you arrive at least 15 minute prior to the beginning of every rehearsal. We have quite a bit to cover in a relatively short period of time and want to maximize the most out of each rehearsal.

Some important reminders preparing for the next few weeks of summer band.

  • Hydrate regularly and often throughout the day.
  • Begin and end each day with a glass of water.
  • Alternate your water intake throughout the day with sports drinks (Gatorade, Sports Ade, Pedialyte Sport, etc) to replenish electrolytes. NOT ENERGY DRINKS (Monster, Reign, Red Bull, etc.).
  • Eat something that was once alive that includes protein with each meal or snack.
  • Breakfast is important; however, try to stay away from a lot of dairy. Milk curdles and.... well.... it's not pretty.
  • Bring some granola bars or other quick snacks to replenish energy.
  • Non-negotiables: Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. The sun is going to be out in full Texas force next week. BE PREPARED.

The directors are highly aware of the weather throughout the marching season and do our best to ensure a safe rehearsal environment by monitoring weather conditions. We take regular water breaks throughout the rehearsal and monitor the reactions and conditions of all students. It is important that each student takes responsibility for their own health and ensure that they have enough water to last throughout the rehearsal and consume the water at regular intervals to maintain proper hydration.

Schedule for week of July 25th

Please click the following link to access the Prosper Band Google Calendar.

Pick-up & Drop-off @ PHS

In order to make pick-up and drop off at PHS as quick and as safe as possible, we ask that people avoid dropping students off in the fire lane located directly behind the band hall. Instead, please drop your student off at either the auditorium parking lot or in the cafeteria parking lot. There is a tremendous amount of congestion when over 200 students are being dropped off and picked up at once and we want to avoid as much of this as possible.

The parking lots outlined in yellow in the picture to the left are appropriate locations to drop students off. The section labeled in red should be avoided, due to the amount of students crossing the fireman to enter the slab field.

Thank you for keeping our kids safe!!!!

Please join us for our first community performance of the 2021 marching season on Saturday, July 31st. We will be featuring the entire Prosper Mighty Eagle Band (winds, percussion and color guard) by introducing the first performance of our new spirit show! Students and parents will have the opportunity to volunteer for band activities, check out their band uniform, purchase spirit wear, take their official band photo for the yearbook, pay band fees and more!!!

The event will be held at Prosper High School. Be on the lookout for a band registration email soon to be able to upload all of the required forms, sports physical and all other information pertinent to the 2021-22 school year.

New to PISD Orientation

PHS is hosting orientation for all NEW-TO PISD Students this next week. If your student has previously been enrolled at any school in PISD to the year, this is not for you. This is only for students that are brand new to the District.

We are encouraging our students to attend to virtual option beginning at 2pm, if at all possible, to minimize the amount of lost rehearsal time. Please contact your counselor for more information.

Band Hype Days

We are looking forward to our band hype days throughout Summer Band. Make sure you start to assemble your attire now.... you don't want to miss out!!!

For this next week:

  • Tuesday, July 27th - Superhero day! Dress like your favorite superhero.
  • Thursday, July 29th - Luau Day! Time to dress in your favorite vacation attire.

Do you have an excused absence request?

Prosper Mighty Eagle Band members are expected to be at all rehearsals, events and performances as noted in the Prosper Band Goggle Calendar. We understand that unavoidable conflicts may sometimes arise, but it is important that all students are present as we cannot teach an empty spot or chair. It is the student's responsibility to obtain all material that was missed and makeup the time appropriately. If you have attempted all aspects of working around this conflict, but cannot come up with a solution, please fill out the following absence request form ASAP.
