It is important to take a gas mask along with you. It will protect you and prevent you from inhaling poisonous and toxic gases. These gases will eventually cause you to have a slow painful death when inhaled. Bring a gas mask to war!

Rifle

A rifle such as the M1 Garand-Rifle would be very helpful to increase your survival rates because you will be able to kill or eliminate your enemy. When the enemy comes and intrudes your trench you will be able to shoot them. Also, if you as the solider decides to go "over the top" or above the trench into the battlefield, it might help your chances grow from the little that you begin with when being in the open grassy field. Bring a rifle or tow to the war!

Entrenching Tool

I would be very helpful to bring a spade or other wise known as an entrenching tool because you will need to dig trenches to huddle down in and somewhere to stay. Digging these trenches will be a lot more efficient with this tool and will safe your life, well perhaps at least for a little while. Bring a spade to the war!

Extra Socks

It would be necessary to bring extra socks when coming to war. Bringing extra socks will keep your socks and feet fresh for the most part and it will help prevent trench foot. Trench foot is when your foot, or feet, get diseases and infected due to having mud up to there knees at some point when crawling through the trenches.

Bayonet

Ak-47 bayonet and scabbard by Francis Flinch is licensed under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication

Bringing a bayonet to war will be a big factor on whether you will make it out alive or not. Bayonets are sharp long knifes that soldiers attach to the end of their rifle or in the picture above, an ak-47 or machine gun, to attack the enemy with when in range or distance. Bayonets were mostly used within the trenches since that would be in close range and tight quarters.
