All Saints CE Primary School 20th May 2020 Newsletter

Another week has flown by! We have been really busy in school preparing lots of spaces ready for June 1st and the possibility of opening further to more year groups. We are taking lots of action to mitigate as much risk as possible. By now you should have all received a number of emails explaining how school will run for EYFS, Year 1 , Year 6 and our Key Worker Group. If there is anything you are unsure of, please do not hesitate to call or email.

To help us get ready for June 1st we will be closing school for half term next week. As you know, we have remained open since "lockdown" to provide a hub for a number of schools. Now we need time to give our school a good deep clean! We think that our fabulous staff also deserve a rest and time to plan for a very different kind of classroom! After half term we will continue to provide Home Learning opportunities for those who are not rejoining us, although this will look a little different to Google Classrooms to make it more manageable. It will be quite exciting though and details will be out soon!

We hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. We miss you all terribly! Thank you once more for the lovely comments and feedback we are STILL receiving. It makes a world of difference to know that we are helping and that our actions are being well received.

I read this poem the other day and loved the sentiment. My boys and I wrote our own version with the things in it that we would not take for granted again. I would love to hear yours if you do the same!

We are looking for someone to join our Lunchtime Team

From September we are looking for a lunchtime supervisor to join our team at All Saints. Working hours would be 11:45-1pm, Monday to Friday.

We are looking for a positive person who enjoys working within a team. The successful candidate would be responsible for the supervision of children both outside and in the dinner hall. They would need to be on hand to support children in their games and social interactions, dealing with any issues which may arise in line with out Positive Behaviour Policy and our First Aid Policy. (Training would be given).

Most importantly, you would have to be fun and enjoy facilitating children's games!

If you are interested and would like to find out more, please email the office at admin@allsaints.leics.sch.uk

Google Classrooms

We hope you are all ok and still accessing the activities on Google Classrooms. Next week is half term so we will not be posting any work for you then.

From June 1st, if schools open further to EYFS, year 1 and year 6, then some of your teachers will be in school teaching small groups. Therefore, after half term the work you can access will look a bit different. Keep your eyes peeled!!

Just a reminder that the main reason we have chosen Google Classrooms is so that we can keep in touch with you all through the Weekly Reflection Log. Please could we ask that you ensure this is accessed where possible, even if it is just a couple of lines. We just like to know how you all are!

If you get stuck with Google Classrooms please email helpmrsp@asasps.org and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please don't hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can help with.

Shout out to some of our Little Acorns this week. They have been working really hard, showing great personal determination and perseverance. These are characteristics of learning that make us, as teachers, especially proud!

Elsie has mastered riding her bike in less than a week!!! Fantastic!

Corra has shown us how her fearless she is, holding her uncle’s Chameleon, complementing some learning on the mixed up chameleon story!

Bethany is involved in an ‘upcycling’ project to transform an old dolls house, showing us the value of patience and stamina in her character! Great job!

Aalayah has shown us huge determination, working to achieve lovely letter formation. She hasn’t given up and now writes a beautiful ‘a’ and we are really pleased her hard work has paid off !!! Well done!

Axel Scheffler has illustrated a digital book for primary school age children, free for anyone to read on screen or print out, about the coronavirus and the measures taken to control it. Published by Nosy Crow, and written by staff within the company, the book has had expert input: Professor Graham Medley of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine acted as a consultant, and the company also had advice from two head teachers and a child psychologist.

The book answers key questions in simple language appropriate for 5 to 9 year olds:

• What is the coronavirus?

• How do you catch the coronavirus?

• What happens if you catch the coronavirus?

• Why are people worried about catching the coronavirus?

• Is there a cure for the coronavirus?

• Why are some places we normally go to closed?

• What can I do to help?

• What’s going to happen next?

StarLine is a national home learning parent helpline established in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Led by a partnership of education and parenting organisations, the helpline provides parents and carers the opportunity to ask questions about home learning from qualified teachers with substantial experience and expertise.

Schools are working hard to provide ongoing education to children across the country during lockdown. We know that parents have an exceptionally difficult task trying to support their children’s learning and juggling many other commitments. StarLine makes sure that additional advice, guidance and reassurance is available to families six days a week as they continue to work and learn in the home environment.

Happy Birthday from all at All Saints for the next couple of weeks goes to ...
