Situated on a private lake, this is truly a unique setting ideal for intimate weddings, outdoor activities, and connecting with each other. We have private, secure parking on site for snowmobile trailers and trucks for your convenience. Dixville Notch gets plenty of snow every year, so if there's snow anywhere in New England, it's here. Stay includes all meals, including four-course dinners, prepared and served by our own accredited Chef Gordon. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated – please let us know ahead of your stay. Groceries are sourced from the local area farmers and markets including the freshest in-season produce and seafood available. In addition, we can fetch fresh, local produce for you during your stay or other items from town if you would like.

The Residence: Our rustic Hale House, a beautiful lodge, is situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Gloriette and offers seven bedrooms, six- and one-half baths, and an enclosed porch overlooking the lake perfect for morning coffee and dining while watching the sunset reflect off the cliffs hung opposite the lake. The house has a fully equipped chef’s kitchen (with cook’s quarters), dining room, beautiful living room, pub room, and a private office/study. One of the bedrooms has a king-sized bed and ensuite bath, three have queen-sized beds and ensuites, one has a full-size bed and shares a bath with two rooms which have three twin beds between them. The residence and property are of course, dog friendly. If you can tear your eyes away from the gorgeous views from just about every window in the house, there is WIFI and satellite TV available.

The Location: A 7,000-acre private playground that you have to yourselves (except for the moose and other wildlife that abounds) – you can enjoy the remoteness amidst some of nature’s most beautiful sights. Some of northern New Hampshire’s most pristine hunting and wildlife watching exists on the property with an abundance of bear, pheasant, grouse, white tailed deer, and moose. Want to be active? Enjoy over 50 miles of restricted hiking, walking, or snowshoeing trails, or take a snowmobile ride with direct, private access to a trail network of thousands of miles. Rather just relax? Lounge in solitude in the cozy Hale House, read a book, enjoy a quiet lakeside view with storytelling during the evening, or simply take in stunning views of the Notch. There are several roads throughout the property that are two to three miles long and are passable if you have an SUV, but depending on the amount of snow some may not be plowed and may instead be used as snowmobile trails. Please note that some of the land is under conservation easements and there may be hikers or snowshoers far out on the property, but nowhere near the Hale House.

If you prefer to fly in, there is a private airport, Berlin Regional airport (KBML), only 40 minutes away. The airport’s elevation is at 1161.3 feet and its dimensions are 5200 by 100 feet.

"The Hale House is a great family/friends wilderness getaway where our nine family members were able to create a memorable holiday experience. The historic home is rustic, spacious, and homey and sits on a lake. We had the house to ourselves, but there is staff on the property round the clock readily available for help or questions. We had our own private chef so we didn’t have to give meals a second thought. They were able to accommodate all our food requests and restrictions. All the meals were awesome - fresh, abundant, with plenty of choices – and we are pretty particular foodies!! Chef Gordon also made freshly baked snacks for us to take on our hike up to Table Rock one morning. One afternoon we had a target shooting contest on the property. We also liked the BYOB policy as it made it fun and easy for everyone to have their desired beverages. We made a fire outside in the evening where we enjoyed some pre-dinner cocktails and apps. After dinner there was plenty of room to spread out in the living area, where we exchanged Secret Santa, played games and cards and set up ping pong in the screened in porch. A few miles up the road in the town of Errol we discovered LL Cote’s – an old fashioned general store on steroids where we all shopped for our Secret Santa gifts. We were hoping to snow shoe and hike some more of the many scenic trails but we ran out of time! And when it was time to check out, Chef Gordon had extra croissants for us for the ride home. "We had a wonderful time. It was a great experience and brought back many fond memories of when the kids were younger at the Balsams. I must say that the quality of the food and service was outstanding, so kudos to Gordon and the team. I had brought a book with me but it saw little daylight as we spent one day hiking up around the golf course, one day snow mobiling through the beautiful trails of the north woods, one day in the backyard acting like little kids building a snow man, forts and having snowball fights and the final day snowshoeing on the foot and a half of fresh powder.

Being that we had 5 kids between the ages of 18 and 25 with us there was no shortage of energy so the fire pit was sparked up each day as the sun went down and board games followed soon thereafter. One of the more wonderful surprises was how great it was to have our dog Jake with us. It was awesome to watch him to run around and explore all the beauty of nature with us while we hiked and snowshoed.
