Meditation Community

'A Short History of Solitude' is a thought-provoking look at different experiences of solitude and currently available on BBC Radio 4 iPlayer.

Episode 1 explores 'contemplatives' and others who have chosen to retreat from the distractions of the world into solitude to achieve intimacy with the divine reality.

Episode 2 looks at the Romantic impulse to seek the authentic self in nature as part of the natural order via a Wordsworthian 'bliss of solitude'.

Episode 3 discusses those who have had solitude imposed upon them like prisoners or like many these days who are self-isolating or shielding. Although loneliness and solitude are not the same experience, the former can have serious mental health consequences.

Regular meditation practice helps us develop a private inner sanctuary where we choose to retreat from our busyness, anxieties and loneliness to discover an inner presence which offers freedom, inner peace and resilience.

This is our ever-present and deeper authentic self. Please join us for remote shared silence 11-11.30 am Mondays or when you can find the time whether indoors or out!
