The Panther Parent Volume 1 Edition 2

The 2016-2017 School Year started with a BANG at Portland High School!

The Student Council Members from all four classes welcomed everyone as they came in with "hi-fives", bubbles, and smiles all around! Followed by a Renaissance Kick-off like no other!

The Freshmen didn't know quite how to take all of this, but it didn't take them long to figure out that PHS was the coolest high school around!

What is Renaissance?

For us parents, who are not privy to what Renaissance is all about. Renaissance is a program designed to encourage and motivate students to not only become better students, but also better citizens. It focuses on building the student's self esteem and also giving them a faculty member that they can trust to come to if or when they need to. The Renaissance Program has changed the face of Portland High School, and not just in the lives of the students. It has affected the lives of the teachers as well. Renaissance has brought Portland High School together as one very large family.

New Automated Attendance System

Sumner County has enacted a New Automated Attendance System that notifies you EVERY time your student is absent. If you are already aware of their absence, the only thing to do is to remember to send a note with them when they return. If you were not aware, that is when you might need to contact the school.
