2018 Coast Guard Men's Cross Country Preview

Coast Guard will return four of its top five runners from a team that placed third at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship and all seven runners that scored as the Bears placed 21st at the New England Division III Championship.

Greg Ahnrud, who has been an assistant under Ethan Brown for the past five seasons, will take over as the interim head coach for the 2018 season.

Junior Andre Gallant (pictured) was the top Coast Guard finisher at the NEWMAC Championship last season with a time of 26:44 to place 19th while senior co-captain Alex Kearney was 21st (26:54), senior co-captain Colton Atkinson was 23rd (26:58) and junior Jacob Panning was 24th overall (26:59).
Atkinson (pictured above) and sophomore Matt Doyle, who have very successful track seasons last season, along with Gallant, who is coming back from an injury during the track season, will be the top three runners for the Bears this year and have a chance to break the 26 minute mark in the 8K.
Kearney (pictured), junior Jacob McGlumpy
along with sophomore Adam VanDeren (above) will also be scorers for the Bears this season and should target the 26:30-27 minute range by the end of the season.
Sophomores Matt Kerst (bottom left 250), Joseph Roth (top left) and Logan Bonner (top right), junior Kyle Hansen (bottom middle) and senior Ryan Brumm (bottom right) are the returners who will look to crack the top seven.
Ryan Van Brock is the top freshmen this season while Owen Piatt, Jacob Spera, Harper Harris and Greg Costello all have a chance to crack the top ten during their first collegiate season. “Coach Brown has been an invaluable help in my growth as a coach, and I'll be doing my best to repay him with a great season as Interim Head Coach during his leave,” said Ahnrud. “Our entire roster has shown strong year-on-year and season-on-season growth, and I expect this season to be business as usual, with us improving both our NEWMAC and regional standings.”
