Visual Art

The Visual Art Classes include four levels of traditional art media, and a two-year IB art class. Students learn art making skills as well as learn about many cultures in the global community. They explore society and self as they create art with a message. Levels offered include Beginning, Intermediate, Proficient, Advanced, International Baccalaureate.

Students with prior art experience can submit a portfolio to Ms. Aker for consideration to be in a higher-level art class.

Extracurricular

The National Art Honor Society is organized by the National Art Education Association. It is open to all students enrolled in an art class (including CTE) for the current school year. Students participate in service and art activities, as well as enter their work in art exhibits county wide, statewide and nationally. Students who participate for two or more years earn a honor cord to wear at graduation.

NAHS, and all art students have many extra curricular opportunities. There is a tradition of painting sets for the spring musical for the past three years. There are murals and Arts Department events where students can collaborate with others to showcase their skills.

Throughout the year, there are art exhibit opportunities for students. Yearly events include the NC State Fair, Women’s Club of Raleigh Student art competition, Scholastics, and ArtSplosure.

In 2021, students have work on display at Crabtree Valley Mall.
