1868: The Daily Visitor begins publication five days a week on Jan. 1. The Meriden Daily Republican succeeds The Daily Visitor in March.

1886: The Meriden Daily Journal, an evening newspaper, comes out in April to compete with the Republican. It later becomes known at the Meriden Journal.

1892: The Morning Record is launched as a daily paper in October, as a continuation of the Meriden Daily Republican. The Republican becomes a weekly and eventually ceases to publish.
