Otter Updates 1st week of distance Learning down!

Week one of distance learning is under our belts, and we did it together!

As expected, there were some glitches. We experienced links that did not work, internet problems, emails not received, Schoology login difficulties, and a few other things along the way. I know that many things have been worked on to streamline this new learning process; we are learning to access and use Schoology and to connect with your child/children's teacher in various ways. We certainly appreciate your support and teamwork as we work together to get things going. I think we all utilized “patience, flexibility and grace" this week!

Distance Learning 2020.

The first seven days of school (September 2nd - 11th) will be a rolling start, with families getting familiar with the new technology. Teachers will meet daily with students in a scheduled Zoom meeting. During these meetings your students should get more familiar with Schoology and Zoom

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade: 9:00am

3rd Grade - 5th Grade: 10:00am

Supply Bags - Pick up this week!

All Students need to pick up their REQUITED school supply bags this week(see below for your scheduled time)

We recognize that part of creating a successful distance learning experience for students is making sure that they have tools that support their learning. Serene Lake is doing curbside pickup of FREE school supplies and REQUIRED MATERIALS for the year on September 10th and 11th. We will also have last year’s yearbooks that were not picked up and this will be an opportunity to return library books if you have them. Our pick-up schedule, to promote safety, is as follows:

September 10th-Students with the last name A- M ; 11:00 AM-3:00 PM

September 11th-Students with the last name N -Z ; 11:00 AM-3:00 PM

Curbside Pick-up Directions:

• All families must stay in their cars.

• Cars will drive around to the back of the school by the gym where we usually do parent pick up. follow the loop around as designated by cones.

• Please wear a mask; staff will be too.

• A staff member will greet you. You will need to let them know your child's name and teacher.

• A staff member will bring the supply items to you at your car.

• If you choose to walk to Serene Lake, please go to the walk-up table off the corner of the gym and a staff member will assist you.

#1. Students MUST log on to Schoology from our district's student portal. (Using home computer? Go to mukilteoschools.org and click on "student portal" icon). Most school computers automatically take students to the student portal. (IMPORTANT: Do NOT google "Schoology" and try to log on--it doesn't work. You will get an error message.)

Username for Schoology: StudentID#@mukilteo.wednet.edu

Password: First initial, last initial and student ID (example: JG1010101)

#2. Once in Schoology, your student needs to click in to their class every day to see if there are any updates or assignments. Teachers are able to see which students have checked in to their class throughout the day. This is also how attendance is taken.

Parent/Teacher Collaboration Meetings

Teachers are working and preparing for the next week of conferences, devising schedules based on your input and preparing lessons in new and different formats than ever before. It is amazing to see how many new resources are available to staff now than back in the spring. They are working diligently to learn many new tools, create curriculum in a new format and connect with kids in an authentic fashion. I know you join me in appreciating their hard work as we appreciate what you do to support your learners. It takes teamwork for sure!

Need a Laptop?

It is best for each student to have their own device during distance learning. If your student still needs a district laptop please use the quick check out form below.
