From the Principal
This week at Hillendale was marked by hard work and diligence as our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students took the PSSAs for English Language Arts. Our students were focused and hard working while taking these tests. We are so proud of their efforts and are sure they did a great job.
Next week our kids will take the PSSA for Math (3rd-5th grades) and Science (4th grade only). I’m sure the hard work will continue!
On another note, be sure to mark your calendars for an exciting new event at Hillendale: The Spring Fling! Scheduled for Friday, May 10th beginning at 5:30 pm, families can come to Hillendale for fun auction items, food trucks, games, and a movie. It should be an excellent evening!
Have a wonderful week!
Dedicated to Learning
Connecting with the movie Wall-E, our 3rd graders expanded on themes in the story to create their own cleaning robots. Working in the Spark Lab and using Dash robots and Legos, each 3rd grader worked in a group to build a robot and develop the code to control their robots with the goal of cleaning debris from the floor of the room. Not only did this activity effectively integrate STEM areas, the collaboration and creativity were terrific.
Committed to Growth
This past Monday, Hillendale hosted the monthly UCFSD School Board Meeting. A group of six 5th graders identified different topics from throughout the school year that they wanted to highlight and share with the School Board. Each of these topics, including our indoor movement trail, growth mindset, and positive messages throughout the building, connected with the theme of wellness. This 5th graders did an excellent job in their presentation!
