  • The initial attack by the Germans created a bulge in the Allied front line. This is why it's called the Battle of the Bulge.
  • Their assault came in early morning at the weakest part of the Allied line.
  • This battle occurred in the Ardennes Forest

  • More than a million men fought in this battle.
  • 600,000 Germans and 500,00 Americans.
  • The Germans had much more guns and tanks than the U.S. at the beginning of the war.
  • U.S. Army was equipped with 400 tanks and 400 guns
  • Germans was equipped with 600 tanks and 1,900 guns
  • Hitler launched a surprise attack on the Americans
  • He caught the Americans completely off guard

  • Even with hitler launching a surprise attack on the Americans the Americans still won the battle.
  • The Americans were also a lot less prepared for the battle
  • When the battle was over there was 19,000 Americans killed, 47,500 wounded, and 23,000 captured or missing
  • There was 15,652 killed Germans, 41,600 wounded, and 27,582 captured or missing
  • This was the largest battle fought by the United States in World War 2
