This next year the print maker artists of Leon have the opportunity to strenght cultural and friendship ties with the city of Cape Girardeau in MO.

Activities

Descarnador is a recently formed association of print makers conformed by a multi-talented artists who are making an effort to preserve the graphic craft of printmaking in Mexico. Recently, the association had a colective exposition in an official building in Leon City, you can see some of the pictures of that exposition here.

The interest of Descarnador group is to take part of an exchange of ideas, techniques and visual perspectives with people interested in the print making process for popular communication and as alternative for artistic production.

The association took part in some other projects with other groups like Grafica Para Todos and other groups in Guanajuato.

A cultural exchange

The objective is to trade techniques, alternative tools and processes and of course, a cosmo-vision of the mexican popular graphic.

  • Technique: Linoleum carving, ink impregnation, press ready paper.
  • Alternative materials and tools: Materials for carving, for cutting and for printing; house-made.
  • Cosmo-vision of mexican graphic: How the Popular Graphic makes Mexico unique; what the mexican print maker develops when trying to make its visual speech of his surroundings, sentiments or other external factors.

The institution

In an effort to link universities between Cape Girardeau and Leon, the print makers association from Leon (Descarnador) is developing a series of events and live printing in both cities this next year.

Universidad Iberoamericana de Leon

Universidad Iberoamericana Leon (IBERO Leon) is a private, Jesuit university located in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico which was founded in 1978 (but founded in Mexico City in 1943) to extend the reach of Universidad Iberoamericana to the state of Guanajuato and the Bajio region. It is a part of the Mexican Jesuit University System.

Conclusion

In a world where the internet makes people closer and puts the world in the palm of our hands; a close encounter between a human being and art is still something that can not be replaced. The art needs a better communication between cultures, between the people.
