67 College Credits DURING High School
Jael Claybaugh graduated from high school last spring, and at that time she had already completed 67 college credits, giving her a big financial and time saved bonus on her college career.
TIME SAVED BONUS
Jael took full advantage of her high school’s non-traditional dual credit program which offers both flexibility and funding not typically available in conventional school settings.
AN ACCOMMODATING SCHEDULE!
"My high school, Idaho Distance Education Academy (I-DEA), gives its students the option to manipulate their classes to fit both their preferences and life schedule in a way that the traditional school doesn't allow,” said Jael.
ALL NURSING PREREQUISITS COMPLETED
At the time of her graduation, Jael completed all of the prerequisite competencies for her nursing degree and was accepted into North Idaho College of Nursing, where she is currently enrolled. Jael estimates she saved at least $10,000 by taking dual credit courses in high school.
COLLEGE TUITION PAID!
The state’s advanced opportunities funding pays for some dual credit costs for Idaho students, however most students in Jael’s high school, I-DEA, receive additional funding through the school, which allows them to earn their DUAL CREDIT TUITION-FREE.
EXCELLENT PREPARATION FOR COLLEGE!
“There were times when it was definitely stressful and days I thought the homework would never end, but in the end it’s worth it. Besides the money and time I saved, it was also an excellent preparation for college," said Jael.
A GREAT MENTOR AND COUNSELLOR!
"My I-DEA counselor was always available and quick to answer any questions I had. She helped me figure out what classes I needed to take and was knowledgeable about any and all the requirements for high school and college. Her support was invaluable to me—without it I would not have been able to accomplish nearly as much as I did.”
TRANSFORMING HIGH SCHOOL TIME INTO MONEY SAVED!
"Our students really understand and take advantage of this great opportunity to get ahead on their college education both financially and academically. I’m proud that they aren’t satisfied to settle for the status quo and are motivated to make their goals become reality,” commented I-DEA Principal Tera Reeves.
Twenty-percent of I-DEA students complete a two-year college degree or technical certificate by the time they graduate from high school, with savings between $12,000 to $28,000 per student.
