2019 STATE OF THE CITY

Mayor William Man delivered the 2019 State of the City address on Tuesday, February 26.

The Mayor’s speech touched upon nine major initiatives including private-sector redevelopment plans near Rosemead Boulevard and Las Tunas Drive; a soon-to-be-constructed public park on Primrose Avenue; enhanced community awareness through the use of social media and other digital means; and recent public safety efforts that have reduced property crimes by 22 percent over the past year.

CITY CLERK

At their upcoming March 5 meeting, Council discussion will focus on grant funding opportunities for new parks and park improvements. View the agenda HERE

YOUTH COMMITTEE UPDATE

On Feb. 23 during the Camellia Festival, the Youth Committee hosted a booth to highlight water conservation, the Little Free Library project, the Historical Society and their upcoming April discussion on elections.

The Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for March 28, 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. All are welcome to attend.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

FEEDBACK NEEDED ON THE ZONING CODE UPDATE

A draft of the comprehensive Zoning Code Update is now available for comment until Wednesday, March 6. To learn more about the Zoning Code Update and to provide comment, please click HERE.

The City is performing its first comprehensive update of the Zoning Code since 1960 to align it with best practices, today’s community values and policies identified in the recently adopted General Plan. Over the last year, staff has been preparing drafts, section by section, and presenting them for comment to the community and the Planning Commission.

PARKS AND RECREATION

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION

The Temple City Parks & Recreation Department is hosting an Arbor Day Celebration event on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, from 2:30–5:00 p.m. at Temple City Park. This free community event will feature tree-climbing and wood-carving demonstrations, tree plantings, arts and crafts and much more! For the 16th year, Temple City has qualified for a Tree City USA designation.

TEMPLE CITY'S GOT TALENT

Temple City’s Got Talent will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 6:00 p.m. at the Live Oak Community Center. This talent showcase will consist of three divisions (6-11 years old; 12-17 years old; and 18+) and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded in each division.

Auditions will be held March 7 & 8, from 2-8: p.m. at Live Oak Park. If you or someone you know would like to audition and showcase your talent (we are looking for musicians, dancers, magicians, etc.), you can register by simply contacting Tony Villalobos, Recreation Coordinator at (626) 285-2171, ext. 4520, or via e-mail at avillalobos@templecity.us.

SPRING RECREATION CLASSES

Registration for spring recreation classes begins Thursday, March 1. Classes begin the week of April 8th and are conducted at Live Oak Park, unless otherwise noted. Register online at www.templecity.us or in-person at the Live Oak Park Community Center (10144 Bogue St.). For more information, please call (626) 579-0461.

SENIOR CELEBRATION

Congratulations to Bob and Dorothy Bock who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Thursday, February 26 during the Senior Lunch Program. Bob and Dorothy have been active participants in the City’s senior programs for many years. Thank you for celebrating your special occasion with us!
