Weekly Reflections January 13, 2017

Dear APH Families,

“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.” “Be your authentic self.” “My closest friends are still the girls from my all girls high school.” “Take advantage of this experience.”

These messages as well as the inspiring sounds of Yale’s premier all female acapella group, Something Extra, filled our halls and Bistro this week. These educated, enlightened and empowered women shared their advice as well as performed for our students, faculty and staff. Following their performance, the group of 14 young women from around the country, joined our students for lunch and further shared their experience and advice. We were all inspired.

In the spirit of being a student centered school our girls are busy making plans! Two of our juniors have officially begun an Events and Traditions Committee here at APH and held their first official meeting today. Senior/Junior Prom plans are in the works as well as some plans to implement meaningful traditions for the student body.

House Names

Back in August our students were assigned Houses. They were assigned a color and given the task to identify an empowered woman whom they look to that changed the world as we know it. Students researched, voted and revealed their House names. Houses are long lasting, a way to create bonds that go well beyond graduation. Our founding students have the unique opportunity to establish this legacy for years to come. It is our pleasure to introduce the Houses.

SAT Prep

The SAT prep club met this week with myself and Ms. Cook. In order to maximize time we will be meeting weekly during lunch on Wednesday, one week the focus will be on math prep the next verbal. Juniors will also have one on one meetings to begin the future planning process. They have been rostered into a class on myAPH and will be able to access it for appropriate timelines and information about future opportunities.

Academic Support

Did you know we have a resource person here after school? Meet, Mr. Blodget. He is available from 3-5pm every Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mr. Blodget is a retired Associate Head of School, he is published in a variety of educational journals and presents at National Conferences. His primary focus is to help girls with research and writing. He is currently working with a few students but definitely has space to work with others. Please encourage your daughters to run a draft by him or see him for organizational support.

Financial Aid Application Due

It's hard to believe we are already talking about the 2017 - 2018 school year! A few dates to be aware of: Financial Aid is due on January 20. To be considered for Financial Aid you must apply every year. FACTS accepts 2015 tax returns for submission.

Contracts will be given to current families along with Financial Aid award if applicable on February 3. In order to be issued a contract for 2017 your tuition payments for the current school year must be up to date. We ask that you reserve your daughter’s space for the 2017- 2018 school year with a $2200 deposit by February 10.
