Rocket Review Week of May 11, 2018

PLEASE READ AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING AND WEDNESDAY, MAY 16TH

On Wednesday, May 16th, we will be eating lunch in classrooms due to DARE graduation set up in the gymnasium.

If your child will be bringing lunch on Wednesday, May 16th, and their classroom is designated a Peanut/Tree Nut safe classroom, their lunch will HAVE TO BE Peanut/Tree Nut safe. A few examples of what to avoid packing in lunches: Nutella, granola bars, trail mix, and some baked goods. Some suggestions for Peanut/Tree Nut safe lunches include: lunch meats, cheese (string, cubed, etc), Sun Chips, fresh fruits and vegetables, Goldfish crackers, graham crackers. See the attached list for further suggestions. If you are not sure what to send to school in your child's lunch, please feel free to call the office and we will be happy to assist you. Our custodian has a list of Peanut/Tree Nut Safe classrooms to prioritize wiping of tables and desks after students eat lunch in the classrooms using health department approved cleaners.

Breakfast will still be offered each morning. All breakfast choices are Peanut/Tree Nut safe. Breakfast will be served in the gym on Wednesday, May 16.

Thank you for your understanding, patience and support as we strive to keep all Morgan students safe at school.

~Mrs. Lasky

Career Focus LUncheon

Last Wednesday, sixth grade students from Morgan joined over 1000 students, staff and professionals at the Palazzo Grande for the annual Career Focus Luncheon, sponsored by the Utica Foundation for Educational Excellence.

THANK YOU to our Morgan Volunteers PTO for sponsoring two tables at this event. THANK YOU to Dr. Haemmerle, who also sponsored a table and met with students to view their digital resumes and talk about career paths and choices.

Career Focus celebrated its 25th year of inviting sixth grade students in UCS to talk about careers and meet with professionals from around the community!

One of our Morgan students is hosting a coin drive to benefit children at Beaumont Hospital.

She approached me a few weeks ago, asking if she could gather donations. She wrote a proposal stating: "We should donate money for Beaumont Children's Hospital for all the children who really need medicine and to help them so they can get better and go home to their families"

Donations will go to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals at Beaumont Children's. Your donations will help purchase:

  • $25 a plush Beau the Bear, a gift that is given to each child for comfort
  • $25 provides a student heart check, diagnosing potential problems, especially in athletes
  • $100 provides therapy services for children with autism and their families
  • $250 purchases a special red wagon used to transport children throughout the hospital as needed
  • $250 purchases a pediatric cancer infusion chair for a child's comfor during treatment
  • $500 purchases a customized therapy bike for a child with special needs

There will be a collection box outside the main office to deposit coins, or you can send in donations in a sealed envelope marked Beaumont Donation. We will collect until Friday, June 1.

I would like to thank our Morgan student, Katherine K. in fourth grade, for organizing this charitable event and giving back to others in the community!

MORGAN'S FIELD DAY WILL BE FRIDAY, JUNE 1, 2018. If you would like to volunteer to help, please complete the form that was sent home on yellow paper, or print the one below. Return the completed form to Morgan so we can get a count of volunteers. Thank you!!

Thank you to everyone who attended Monday night's music concert, Art Show and Book Fair. Thanks to Miss Q, (Morgan's music teacher) students, staff, parents and community members enjoyed the music Monday night as our students demonstrated what they have been learning and practicing throughout the past several months.

Our PTO would like to thank all the parents who signed up to help run the book fair and make it a successful event! The book fair would not have been able to run without parents to help.

Mrs. Borbolla made Morgan look amazing again this year with the artwork displays. There were over 1200 pieces of art work on display throughout the building. Your child should start to receive those art pieces back to take home and display.

I would like to wish all of our Morgan mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and special female family members a Happy Mother's Day on Sunday! While this is a day to honor the women who are special in each child's life, it is also a day to spend time with our children. Time with our kids is always the best gift of all!

Have a great week! ~Mrs. Lasky
