THE FLEXTIGHT ADVANTAGE

MAXIMUM OPTICAL RESOLUTION SCANS AT FLAT RATE FEES

All your films are scanned at a true optical resolution suitable for both exhibition-sized prints and long term digital archiving. The Imacon Flextight 848 scans a wide range of large and medium film formats - the Flextight 848 will also scan strips and single unmounted frames of XPAN panoramic films.

GOODBYE NEWTON RINGS

The Imacon Flextight 848 uses a virtual drum system allowing for perfect focus with a glass-free optical path. By bending the original film during scanning, the tension creates a straight scan-line that eliminates inaccuracies that can cause registration errors and color flaring.

The other advantage of scanning on Imacon's virtual drum system over a flatbed system is that you avoid the Newton Rings effect without the need to wet-mount your films.

FILM TYPES AND FORMATS

The Imacon Flextight 848 scanner accepts most film types including:

  • Slide film* (E6 and Kodachrome)
  • Color negatives (C41)
  • Black & White negatives

*Note: All films have to be unmounted and sent individually or in strips. We currently do not have the ability to scan mounted films.

All films are scanned at a true optical resolution. Film sizes from 645 format all the way to 4x5 inches-large sheets are supported for scanning:

  • 6 x 4.5cm -up to max resolution of 4000ppi
  • 6 x 6cm --up to max resolution of 3200ppi

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a virtual drum and how does it benefit the scanning process?

A virtual drum is a system that allows for perfect focus with a glass-free optical path. By bending the original film during scanning, the tension creates a straight scan-line that eliminates inaccuracies that can cause registration errors and color flaring.

The other apparent advantage of scanning on Imacon's virtual drum system over a flatbed system is that you avoid the Newton Rings effect without the need to wet-mount your films. This is a major time-saver.

How long does it take to scan my films?

That depends on the job queue and how many frames you sent for scanning. In most situations, it takes between 7 to 10 working days.

Please contact us if you need a scan job done at a quicker pace. Do note such requests will be handled on a case by case basis and can incur additional charges at our discretion.

The frame I want scanned is part of a strip? Do I need to cut out the frame before shipping it for scanning?

A simple solution is to just indicate which frame on the strip you want scanned.

You can either take a photo of the strip and indicate the desired frame. Or you can physically attach a sticker or note when submitting your films at the drop-off point.

Do you scan 35mm film?

It will be on a case by case basis as 35mm film requires a different film holder. The same rates will apply per frame.

Do you use Digital ICE to remove dust and scratches?

The Imacon FlexColor software utilizes a different approach to removing dust and scratches called FlexTouch. This feature is best used sparingly so as to avoid over-softening the image. A more effective approach for removing dust and scratches is to combine FlexTouch with additional post-processing in Photoshop.

Do you do digital color restoration of old films?

No. Only basic color corrections such as removing color casts and fine tuning white balance.

What solvent-based solution do you use to clean films?

PEC-12 is a waterless Photographic Emulsion Cleaner which is suitable for use on most film and print emulsions. It is a blend of organic hydrocarbon solvents with a neutral pH and is free from chlorofluorocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons. It dries instantly, leaves no residue and meets archival needs. Because it contains no water, PEC-12 will not cause emulsion swelling, tackiness, water marks or other damage associated with re-washing. PEC-12 removes virtually all non-water based stains from color and B&W slides, negatives and prints including:

  • grease pencil
  • adhesive residue
  • finger oils, ball-point pen
  • fungus, smoke & soot damage
  • laser separation oil
  • most permanent inks

If one pass with the cleaner and the pad does not remove the dirt, then you may have a water based stain and you can't remove it with this cleaner.
