Spring & Summer Sun Make & Take Young Living Essential Oils

Why is using (most) Sun Protection a Bad Idea?

THE SKIN IS THE LARGEST ORGAN OF THE BODY

SKIN ABSORBS 60-70% OF WHAT WE PUT ON IT

THE AVERAGE WOMAN PUTS 300+ CHEMICALS ON HER BODY EACH DAY and a portion of the chemicals come from our Sun protection products

OVER 10,000 CHEMICALS are ALLOWED TO BE USED WHEN MAKING PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS in the U.S.

MANY CHEMICALS are LINKED TO HARMFUL DISEASES AND BODY REACTIONS

How Do you Avoid Toxins in Personal Care and Sun Protection Products ?

Do your research!!!

READ THE INGREDIENTS- IF YOU CAN'T PRONOUNCE IT, IT'S PROBABLY NOT A GOOD CHOICE

You are what you eat! So if you can't eat it why would you put it onto the largest organ of your body?

Healthier Options!

As Wellness Mama says on her blog:

A large part of natural sun protection is eating an anti-inflammatory diet. This type of diet will also be beneficial for many other health conditions, and if you’ve read my blog before, you know the drill:
FOODS TO AVOID: processed foods, vegetable oils (this is the most important for sun exposure), grains, sugars
FOODS TO EAT: lots of healthy saturated fats, lots of foods rich in omega-3s (fish, etc), lots of leafy greens, 2+ tablespoons of tomato paste daily

How Much Zinc Oxide Should I Use?

Mommypotamus (a member of Tom and Vanessa's/ our YL team) Says:

Anywhere from 5-20% of the total solution is generally considered to be effective, with 20% having a higher level of protection. You may find the information below helpful in determining your measurements. I have not tested these ratios in a lab for SPF value.
If you’re looking for moderate protection, measure the lotion you are going to use and then add 10% of it’s weight in zinc oxide.
For example, 8oz. (weighed) of lotion + .8oz of zinc oxide (weighed) = 10% zinc ratio
Or 8 oz (weighed) of lotion + 1.2 oz zinc oxide (weighed) = 15 % zinc ratio
Note: Huge differences in SPF numbers are actually pretty insignificant when it comes to differences in protection. SPF 100 blocks 99 percent of UVB rays, while SPF 50 blocks 98 percent. SPF 30 blocks 96.7 percent, SPF 15 blocks 93%.

In other words, the amount of zinc oxide you use depends on how much protection you want!

Do NOT inhale the zinc oxide powder!
