School Subjects; Smart or Stupid? April 19, 2017 By: Madi Tolle

⬇️ 6th Hour Communications Skills Survey Results ⬇️

This is the result of my class survey. There were 14 yes' and 3 no's.

I think that some school subjects are not useful for our futures. Here are my reasons:

What do veterinarians need to learn in school?

Do you want to be a veterinarian when you grow up? How many times does a vet use topics such as the court cases leading up to the Civil War? That would be zero times. Merriam Webster says, “a vet is a person qualified to treat diseased or injured animals.” At least healthcare would be in the same category rather than history.

How are language arts and chemistry related?

Wikipedia defines a chemist as someone who “studies the composition of matter and its properties.” A language arts teacher is someone who teaches word skills and how to use words correctly. A language arts teacher need to take grammar and word practice classes to add to their skill set. If you are forced to take high school chemistry it may be fun to make reactions, but that won’t help with language arts skills.

Who is a machinist and what are the projects they deal with?

What do machinists deal with? Machines, obviously. But what about the projects they deal with? They deal with hands-on projects that include a lot of individual success. In our school, the closest thing we have to a machinery class is shop class. Unfortunately, you can only enroll in it in high school and eighth grade.

Do you disagree with me?

If you do, that is fine because I understand your point of view also. One thing is math formulas. We may need them to find how much we have to pay for a loan or bill. Or you may also find something interesting you never thought of. I’m just saying that you have an opinion and you will need to find out about what you want to do when you’re older. Adults always say that we need to learn everyday, but if we’ll never use it ever again then we will forget it.

How can we fix this problem?

Whether it’s contacting a teacher or principal or just writing an email or simple letter, please do it and change something! You can tell them all my reasons and examples to back up your statement. At last, if you feel that this issue is completely true, do something to stop it today.
