Lurlene McDaniel's Biography: When her son was 3 years old, he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. She began writing as a way to cope with this traumatizing event. She often writes about young adults who suffer from cancer, terminal illness, or a death of a loved one through suicide or disease. She graduated from the University of South Florida but now lives in Tennessee where she continues to write books.
Genre, Setting, and Theme: The genre of "Hit and Run" is fiction. The setting is around a place called Asheville during present day. The theme of this story is that there are four teenagers who's lives intersect and they never dreamed of hurting each other. A few choices were made that can't be changed and lives are changed forever.
Plot Summary: On the way home from a party, Quin who was tipsy, swerved and hit something. Assuming it was a deer he drove away. The next day at school, a girl named Analise got hit by a car in the same spot where Quin allegedly hit a deer.
Characters: Laurie: She was a freshman in high school and not part of the popular crowd. She went on a date with Quin when the accident happened. Quin: He was the most popular guy in school. Analise: She got hit by a car on her way home from babysitting the same night Quin hit something in the same spot. Jeremy: In love with Annalise, he stayed by her side the entire time she was in the hospital up until her last days.
The Main Conflict: Annalise Bower got hit by a car in the same spot where Quin supposedly hit a deer. When Laurie finds out this valuable information, she uses it against Quin. Annalise is in the hospital and Jeremy refuses to leave her side.
Book Review: I seriously fell in love with this book! It's probably one of the best books I've read in a while. I loved the sense of mystery behind this dramatic "romance" book. The way the characters all went so well together. But I will say, if you don't want to cry, don't read it. The end of the book was pretty sad.
Quotes: " I must have nodded off because a whump, the screech of brakes, the crunch of metal hitting metal and a stomach-twisting lurch jerk me awake." (15) This quote is Laurie's first thoughts when she realizes Quin has hit something. "I can't eat or sleep. All I do is think about what's been said in the halls, what Judie has told me. 'Annalise was a victim of a hit and run' " (78) This quote is when Laurie starts to put the pieces together.
