  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol before putting on a mask.

Council Update | February 16

Conceptual Incentive Request for Vanguard Villas. City Council gave a favorable opinion to a conceptual economic development incentive request for the Vanguard Villas, which would be located within Streets of West Pryor. Mine remediation is needed to stabilize the land for construction of the villas. The developer is seeking 50% property tax abatement for 25 years and sales and use tax exemption on construction materials. The estimated value of the incentive request would be about 9.5% of the total project costs. The developer must now present the redevelopment plan to the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority (LCRA) for recommendation and formal consideration by City Council.

Jackson County Reinvestment Fund Steering Committee. City Council adopted a resolution appointing Development Services Director Ryan Elam to represent the City of Lee’s Summit on the Jackson County Reinvestment Fund Steering Committee. The committee will provide guidance as Jackson County analyzes its existing housing stock as part of an assessment system upgrade.

CARES Act Funding. City Council moved to second reading an ordinance extending an intergovernmental agreement with Jackson County for use of CARES Act funding in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The agreement extends the deadline for the City to use its allocated funding to Dec. 31, 2021. Jackson County appropriated $5,921,537 of the CARES Act funding it received to the City of Lee’s Summit.

Power Outages

Throughout the Midwest, extreme weather conditions are creating both high demand for electricity and stress on power production. Regional power management officials are asking all customers to conserve energy as much as possible to avoid potential widespread outages.

The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) asked member electric utilities, including Evergy, to implement controlled, temporary emergency electricity reductions in order to help avoid larger uncontrolled and extended power outages throughout the region.

We Want To Hear From You

The City is designing infrastructure improvements for the Pryor Road corridor from Longview Road to Hook Road, a project that was approved by voters with the passage of the 2017 sales tax initiative.

Specific improvements include roadway widening to two lanes in each direction with curb and gutter and enclosed storm drainage, additional turn lanes and signal improvements, a divided median, improved roadway lighting, added pedestrian and cycling features such as continuous sidewalk and multi-use path, utility relocations, and access management modifications.

Please provide thoughts or comments about the Pryor Road Improvement Project from Longview Road to Hook Road. Public comments close at 5 p.m. on February 28.
