Absurdity and Waiting for Godot Skyler Garrett, Daisy Gonzalez, Grace Joslin, Claire Stetson

Theory: Waiting for Godot is an exploration of absurd heroism in the characters Vladimir and Estragon.

The Absurd Hero:

  • Recognize the absurdity of the human condition
  • Abandon hope
  • Find happiness in material reality
  • Ultimately find meaning in the struggle itself

Vladimir and Estragon are absurd anti-heroes.

But at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or not...when with folded arms we weigh the pros and cons we are no less a credit to our species. (51)
"Let's go""We can't" "Why not?" "We're waiting for Godot..." (54)
"Why don't we hang ourselves?" (60)
