What is a monster?

Outline

The outline of this project is making us produce and develop what we think a monster is. Firstly, we are brainstorming ideas and coming up with definitions of what we think a monster is. After brainstorming, we must research and create an animatronic monster based on one of our own ideas including 3 movements and functions.

Case studies

Today i will be presenting an animatronic monster that fits within a movie genre for Warner Brothers, has three functions and represents what my definition of a monster is. My monster has to fit the criteria of having three functions and being able to be put in a movie genre.

A reason why I believe my monster would fit in great for the upcoming movie is because of how cliche it is. My monster will include fears that everyone is somehow afraid of, For example, clowns, creepy dolls and spiders. The reason my monster has such cliche fears included is because I want this monster to be effective by making this monster something you wouldn't want to be in a room with. This monster will also be really effective due to its uniqueness that it has because no one has created a monster that incorporates three ideas into one. It's clear my monster is clearly suitable for the upcoming movie due to the uniqueness it brings.

The simplicity of the functions my monster will have is another reason why my monster is clearly suitable for the upcoming movie. The three functions my monster will have is bright red glowing eyes, a vibrating body and a creepy kid laugh. The reason for the bright red eyes in my monster is because red is depicted to be with fear, anger and the motion stop. If a person comes across my monster and see's the bright illuminate eyes they will fear what is near them. I have chosen my monster to vibrate because if something is vibrating it will come across as something about to blow up. This will add a touch of tension to my monster. Finally I've decided to put in an audio of a creepy child laugh. The laugh will intensify my monster causing it to be more effective. The simplicity of the three functions is clearly another reason why my monster will be an amazing animatronic for Warner Brother's upcoming movie.

In conclusion I thoroughly believe that my monster would be great for the upcoming Warner Brother's movie. The cliche fears my monster provokes will prove to be very effective and unique because no one has had a monster that has three ideas in one. The simplicity of the three functions my monster will have will also prove to be very effective as it adds tension to my creation. My monster is clearly proven to be the best choice.

Creativity is...

When we were told to create a monster based on what we think a monster is i right away struggled. I'm obsessed with horror movies so there isn't really anything that i am scared of. My first few ideas were:

1. A human who was more perfect than me. I was trying to think "out of the box" but quickly as I realised we were supposed to create an animatronic out of our definition i quickly dissmissed the idea.

After dismissing the idea of a human as a monster i decided to go back to basics. I thought of simple monsters that I know I wouldn't want to be in the same room with. Clowns, spiders, old and worn out dolls and a three headed creature. These are all the things that scare me and give me nightmares.

My idea that i will be proceeding with making will be:

2. A 3 headed clown with spider legs. This monster represents what i am afraid of and i have a clear idea of how i will be making this monster.

My monster is...

My monster - my monster is a combination of 4 things that I find scary. Dolls, clowns, an urban legend and spiders.

Personality and film genre - the film genre my monster will belong too is horror. If I had to categorise my monster into a specific movie it would be chucky, Annabelle or any movie where the plot is a toy coming alive to kill.

Appearance - the appearance of my monster will be very daunting and terrifying. Blood like stains will be splattered everywhere, it will have a combination of dark & light colours. Textures for example hair will be incorporated on the spider legs, and acrylic paint as on the plate to add some realism to my monster. My monster is supposed to come across as a kids toy but when the three movements and functions start, it will become a monster you don't want to be in a room with.

Movement and functions - the first function I will have will be the eyes flashing bright red. Secondly, I will have the whole monster vibrating, and finally, my monster will have a really loud audio of creepy laugh. Although the functions on my monster are very simple they will be effective.

Reasoning - i have chosen red eyes for my monster because red is depicted to be with fear, anger and stop. If a person comes across my monster and see's the bright illuminate eyes they will fear what is near them. I have chosen my monster to vibrate because vibrating to me is something shivering or about to blow up. This will add a touch of tension to my monster. Finally I've decided to put in an audio of a creepy child laugh. The laugh will intensify my monster causing it to be more of a monster.
