Parent Satisfaction Survey

Muskego-Norway School District is committed to engaging our parents and families in every child’s education. To continue our journey to excellence in this area, we gather data from stakeholders to determine where we are as a district and to set and act on realistic, measurable goals for continuous improvement. The Parent Satisfaction Survey allows parents to provide feedback on their experience with their child’s school. If you have not done so already, please complete this short survey (about 10 minutes) available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MNSD_Parent.

The Parent Satisfaction Survey will be open from November 15th - December 15th.

Strategic Plan Update

The Strategic Plan Advisory Committee met Monday night to continue the process of considering the direction of the district and determining priorities for our next 5-year plan (2018-2023). The team reviewed perception data, including focus group comments and survey data from the community, parents, and staff (summary Here) as well as student survey results (summary Here). The team also studied education, economic, and workforce trends in research. We will keep you updated as the plan takes form.

2018-19 School Calendar - Coming Soon

A DRAFT calendar will be brought forward to the School Board at our November 20th School Board meeting. Based on feedback, revisions will be made, with action to be taken at our December 11th School Board meeting. Please look to next month's IC message for the 2018-19 calendar.

MHS Pool Renovations

The MHS pool has served the district and community well for over 45 years; however, it has exceeded its useful life. We are excited to share that our pool will be renovated and expanded over the next eight months. We will be adding an additional two lanes, going from six to eight and adding another diving board. We will also increase spectator and team seating and have an elevated scoring deck. Construction is planned to be completed in time for the girl's 2018 swim season. Boys will be practicing and competing at area districts during this winter season.

Attendance Boundary Lines for 2018-19

With the passing of the April 2016 referendum, two of our elementary schools, Tess Corners and Muskego Elementary, will be "retired" and closing at the end of this school year. Elementary students will merge into the three remaining elementary schools: expanded Mill Valley Elementary, Country Meadows Elementary renamed Bay Lane Elementary, and the existing Lakeview Elementary. Bay Lane will move to the new middle school, Muskego Lakes Middle School, located off North Cape. The new attendance boundaries will take effect at the start of the 2018-19 academic year and may be found on our district website at the following link: 2018-19 Attendance Boundaries.

Attendance Boundary Survey

A survey was recently sent to families with children in elementary and middle schools in the district. The survey you received should have been unique to your home school for the 2018-19 SY. Due to the changes in boundary lines, some family's current home school will be different next year. If you feel you have not received the survey, please check all email accounts listed in Infinite Campus. There was also a link included within the survey that can be used to verify your attendance area. Please contact Lu McBain at melissa.mcbain@muskegonorway.org or 262.971.1800x2117 with questions regarding the survey.

Upcoming Social Events

Plans are underway to have our first family social events where ALL families are invited to attend their home school for the 2018-19 school year. Lakeview, Mill Valley, and the future Bay Lane Elementary will hold the events on February 15, 2018 and May 10, 2018. More details forthcoming.

Mascot and Logo Update

Mill Valley Elementary - It was decided that the Wolf mascot from Muskego Elementary would become the new mascot for Mill Valley. This was done in efforts to bring some of the identity of Muskego Elementary into the merge of the two schools. Draft logos for the wolf are currently being reviewed and decided on. We look forward to sharing the mascot soon.

Bay Lane Elementary - Input is currently being solicited from future Bay Lane families. This is being done through the same survey that was recently sent out to verify attendance boundaries. Look for a future announcement once the mascot and logo have been decided on.

Muskego Lakes Middle School - Students and staff worked through a similar process for identifying the mascot as naming the school. Rising to the surface was the Muskies.

School Closing Protocol

Best Buddies Hayride

Best Buddies fosters one-to-one friendships between students with and without Intellectual and Developmental Delays (IDD). The high school years are a time of heightened social and emotional development and can be difficult even for those without IDD. Best Buddies High Schools helps break through social barriers at an important time in a young person’s life.

On November 11th, The Muskego-Norway Best Buddies Chapter participated in a hayride at Elegant Farmer. It was a brisk morning filled with warm hearts and friendship!

Please consider following the district on Facebook (Muskego Norway Schools) and Twitter (@MuskegoNorwaySC) for up-to-date information about our district’s celebrations and events.

Wishing you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving break next week!

With Gratitude,

Dr. Kelly Thompson, Superintendent
