JST InDesign Topics 3-week course to build InDesign skills

This 3-week course will offer hour long guided sessions to help you build your skills along with 'homework' assignments to help you add to the basics. Make sure to join our Slack Channel – this is where you should post your projects and any reflections on those and receive feedback from peers. You can also ask questions in there – make sure to tag me so I get a notification. 10/16, 10/23, 10/30 from 12:20-1:20 @ the JBar

Week 1

This week is a crash course in basic layout skills. You will learn basic tools and panels and build a simple layout.

Project

Hop in the Slack channel: What parts of the assignment did you struggle with? How did you amaze yourself? What are you imagining creating next?

Optional Homework

Use the basics you learned to make a concert poster. Feel free to experiment with a few new tricks. Post your creation in the Slack Channel and tell us what techniques you used.

Week 2

This week you will experiment with how to use InDesign as a presentation tool - adding interaction, media and animation.

Project

After you complete your project, share the link in the Slack channel: What parts of the assignment did you struggle with? How did you amaze yourself? What are you imagining creating next?

Optional Homework

For homework, experiment with some animation tricks. Use some of the examples here and here to inspire you to experiment with some animation. Think (as the Auburn example ) how animation can be used to aid understanding. Post your creation in the Slack Channel and tell us what techniques you used.

Week 3

This is our 'final project' week. As mentioned, you will probably not be able to complete your final project in the hour time we have. You can have your magazine be print or online.

When you complete your final project, load it to Slack for feedback. How can you use your growing InDesign skills next?
