Mountain View Adventist College Term 1 week 6

Principal's Address

Soul - that is what Mountain View Adventist College has! Last week as we celebrated our faith in the annual Week of Worship, it was very evident that our staff and students care about each other and about our God.

If you want to hear students sing with heart and soul as they praise God, step into one of our chapels.

If you want to hear students be challenged to make right choices, step into one of our chapels.

Mountain View is a diverse school with a great capacity for acceptance and connectedness - connectedness to each other, connectedness to family and connectedness to God. This sense of connectedness and belonging is very real in our school and provides an environment in which student's lives can be transformed. We believe that our role is more than to provide knowledge. It is to build character and soul by developing the whole person, by developing young men and women who will give back to their community.

As we celebrated our spiritual journey last week, as we celebrated Grandparents Day this week and as we celebrate International Women's Day today, take the time to be thankful. Be thankful for teacher's who care, be thankful for children that are learning to make a positive difference, be thankful for the women in your life.

Be thankful that you are part of a school community where heart and soul are fostered and honoured.

Just a reminder that you are invited to our Home and School meeting on Tuesday evening, March 12 at 7pm in the library.

Grandparents Day

On Wednesday 6 March, we had a special visit from some important people in our lives, our Grandparents. They were able to take part in our Chapel service with the focus being Grandparents.

Year 3 lead out with a special poem and song service. Pastor Raul shared his love and experience with his grandmother. He made us realise that the greatest gift we can give our Grandparents, friends and God is to spend time with them.

It was lovely to spend time with our Grandparents in our Junior School classroom.

Year 11 Advanced English

The Year 11 Advanced English had an excursion to the Giant Dwarf Theatre last Friday (March 1) to see Shakespeare’s famous play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. It was an amazing experience - hilarious and action packed. The students were privileged to get a photo with the actors, on stage, at the end of the performance

W.O.W- Week Of Worship

During the week of Feb 25 - Mar 1 2019 our Junior, Middle and Senior schools had W.O.W.

The Junior School's theme was Kingdom Kids. The students were encouraged to see Jesus as the leader of our kingdom, trust in Him as our leader, work together as Kingdom kids through unity and grow the Kingdom by sharing the good news of Jesus through our talents and spiritual gifts.

The Middle and Senior Schools combined for their W.O.W. The theme for the week was ‘For the Kingdom’. Pastor Ian Cangy a former student came and spoke to the students about what it means to live your life for God’s kingdom. There were games for students to participate in during lunch.

The week was a spiritual high for both students and teachers, and the chaplains are thankful for God’s leading during the week.

God Bless

Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 5th March students participated in the college Swimming Carnival where our Sporting Houses competed for the 'Swimming Carnival Champions' title.

At the end of the day Students and staff participated in the fun events that included a 'money scramble', 'the kickboard race' and 'The Great Race' where each house uses as many students and teachers as possible, in the time-space of 5 minutes with many students racing more than once to collect more points for their houses. A crazy, hot, but fun-filled day.

Egg Testing

Year 7 Agriculture conducted an egg taste test to determine which eggs (cage eggs, free range eggs or Mountain View eggs) look and taste best. The students all agreed that free range eggs and Mountain View eggs taste best and that free range conditions are better for the chickens too.

PlayDoh

Year 8 Science is using PlayDoh to model cell organelles and mitosis.

Penrith Panthers Visit

On Monday the 3 March, students in Yr3, Yr5 & Yr6 took part in a 30-minute ball skills fitness session conducted by two of the Penrith Panthers players. Our students were so excited to interact with the players and received some free merchandise of which Mr Lino Salafai organised.

MOUNTAIN VIEW MESSAGES

Homework Bags

A reminder to parents and caregivers of students in Prep to Year 6 to please ensure that each of your children have a homework bag. The homework bag should be brought to school each day. This bag is used to carry student's homework and their library books that have been borrowed from the school library. Students may not borrow books if they do not have this waterproof homework bag. The librarians are concerned that students are not reading books each week to improve their reading skills. If your child does not have a homework bag please ensure that they purchase one from the school office for $10.

WORLD OF MATHS ROADSHOW

World of Maths Roadshow visited our school from Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 February for Years 1 - 9. The program, which meets the national curriculum, catered for all abilities with 16 different activities covering ages from 5 to 15 years old.

It was an ideal opportunity for students to see how Mathematics is applied to some real life situations. Students had to solve a variety of problems, discover number patterns and identify geometric properties, think logically and apply Mathematics to the real world. They gained insight into problem solving, working in teams, and also various maths principles and strategies through fun, colourful and hands-on mathematical activities, which is part of their curriculum this year.

The sessions were highly engaging and students experienced how Maths can be fun!

ADRA Needs You

ADRA Blacktown helps many families in the community, but have run low on stock. They need us to "love our neighbour", and donate some items. We are asking that Students take items to their Homeroom teachers and each item is worth one house point. The more items, the more points your House gets.

ADRA are in desperate need of the following items:

Long Life Milk (Full Cream), Boxes of Weetbix (Small), Cup a Soup, packets of Pasta, Pasta sauce, Peanut Butter, Vegemite, packets of Savoury Biscuits, packets of Sweet Biscuits, Boxes of Tea Bags, cans of Sweet corn, cans of Tuna, cans of Peas.

Any assistance that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Let's continue to show the Mountain View Spirit and help those who are in need.

Carline

Please display your carline sign so the teachers can identify your car quickly.

After School Sport

The students on Tuesday and Wednesday are learning Athletic skills. They are enjoying the activities. This program finishes in week 9.

Year 1-4 Swimming Lessons

Yr 1-4 Swimming Lessons started today March 8th and will continue every Friday, with the last lesson on Friday, April 5th. Please ensure that your child brings their swimming gear every Friday for the next four weeks.
