Dear RHS Parents and Students,

Wow - what a year? We started back in September with ongoing construction in our new wing, and as I type this in mid June there is construction in process again as our "warehouse floor classrooms" get ceilings and a major facelift (see below!).

More importantly, between September of 2019 and today SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED! Despite the construction and despite the pandemic, our students continue to impress, and our school continues to grow. We are proud of our young leaders of change. This year our students took on many different academic challenges and grew as students, as leaders, and as humans.

We hope you have a very safe summer! Be confident that as a staff, we are working hard to build an amazing re-opening plan that will highlight the things we care most about as a school community.

INTENT TO RETURN FORM DUE ASAP!!!

As a Choice Option School in the Bend LaPine School District, Realms HS has enrollment caps at each grade level. This helps us keep our class sizes where we need them to be and allows us to ensure we "fit" in our slowly evolving campus on Brinson Blvd (see construction details below) AND allows us to make sure we complete our forecasting process accurately ensuring that every student is able to access the courses they need and want next year.

PLEASE COMPLETE THIS FORM TO LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE OR ARE NOT PLANNING TO RETURN!

FORECASTING FOR CLASS OF 2021 & 2022

We are asking ALL of next year's Juniors and Seniors to complete THEIR FORECASTING FORM for next year ASAP! This form is your way of letting us know your elective class preferences. So far we have responses from about 50 of the 75 Juniors and Seniors we expect to have. If you have not completed yours, please do so ASAP or you risk not getting the classes you would like!

We recommend you do this with a parent/guardian, or at very least you show them your answers before hitting SUBMIT. If you have ANY questions at all you can direct them to either me (roger.white@bend.k12.or.us) or to Jen Rule (jen.rule@bend.k12.or.us). Due to the number of unknowns right now, we don't need to meet with each student one on one. This form will provide us with the information to draft a schedule for each of you that includes your required courses and also honors your "choice classes" to the maximum extent possible!

REPORT CARDS ON PARENTVUE

Report cards with final 3rd trimester grades for this trimester have been uploaded to ParentVue and StudentVue for you to see. If you are not sure how to access Report Cards on ParentVue click the link below or email us!

Remember that grades this trimester across the state of Oregon were impacted by the COVID-19 related school closures. All students received either a PASS or an INCOMPLETE. Students with a grade of INCOMPLETE will have opportunities to make up that credit until June of 2021.

SUMMER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Bend LaPine Online Enrollment NOW OPEN - closing soon!

We know that, in some/many ways, student learning has been negatively impacted by the school closures throughout our state and country. We are working hard to plan for next Fall to ensure that we can help all students make strong academic progress towards college and career readiness. However, in the meantime, we are ALSO thinking about SUMMER LEARNING...

For ANY Students, Including Those Who Are ON Track and Those Who Aren't: Bend LaPine Online courses can be a great option this summer! ANY student is welcome to take a Bend LaPine Online course and we strongly encourage summer learning! Please know that students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch OR who are on an IEP (special education plan) can take BLO courses for FREE! See details here:

WHAT WILL SCHOOL LOOK LIKE IN SEPTEMBER?!

As you can imagine, as a school and as a District we are hard at work making plans for September. And while we don't have all the details yet, we are getting CLOSER! Clearly all the unknowns right now are HARD ON EVERYONE, including parents, our students, and even our staff too. Bear with us as we work with the newly changing situation in our state and in the Oregon Department of Education.

We will be communicating with our families as soon as we know more. You can expect details by August 1st for sure. And if we can communicate sooner than that we will.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE...

The ceilings and new walls are going up fast!

We are excited about the campus construction project that is already underway at Realms and Skyline High Schools and are optimistic about an on time completion due to the fact that the construction teams were able to get an early start! Next year, at Realms HS we look forward to:

  • Having 10 official classrooms complete with ceilings, wall to wall carpet, and a full envelope of sound absorbing drywall inside and out! It's going to be amazing!
  • 4 newly built classrooms in the area of the warehouse we call "The Outback" that will be occupied by Skyline HS as we begin the process of "separating" the two school campuses.
  • Reopening the other half of "The Outback" to students from both schools for gym/PE activities!
  • And more upgrades too!

NEW FOOD BENEFIT FOR FAMILIES DURING SCHOOL CLOSURE

The State of Oregon recently introduced a new program called Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) which provides financial support to cover the cost of groceries while school is closed. This benefit is provided to ALL families whose children receive free and reduced-price school meals in Oregon. Families with school-age children who receive SNAP benefits will automatically have the additional benefit added to their SNAP cards retroactive to March, when schools closed their doors. Families who are approved for free or reduced lunch prices and do not receive SNAP benefits will be mailed an EBT card with instructions. Please see the informational flyer below for more information.

Has your financial situation changed due to the pandemic? You can save $725-$800 per child a year if you qualify for free or reduced priced meals, which includes breakfast and lunch. All grade levels are included. Applications may be turned in any time during the year.

STUDENTS MAY KEEP iPADS OVER SUMMER

The school district has determined that, in order to facilitate the possibility of summer learning AND in order to minimize the logistical headaches of iPad return in the age of social distancing rules, students may KEEP their iPads over the summer!

Please READ THIS LETTER from Skip Offenhauser, Director of Instructional Technology at BLSD explaining the details.

AND, stay tuned, we'll have details for how you can drop off your iPad at school if you don't want it OR if you are moving out of town!
