Berlin is the capital of Germany. The population of Berlin in 2012 was 3.502 million people. The tourism is ranked high in Germany, because of all of its history.

Cologne Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Cologne, Germany. The construction started in August 15,1248. The Cologne Cathedral was opened in 1322.

Culture

The Germanic language begin when the Germans first came in contact with the Romans in the 1st century BC.
Germans eat about 87 kilo's of bread a year. Germany produces over 1500 varieties of breads, mini breads and rolls. Bread is one of Germany's favorite foods.
Spatzle is a soft egg noodle dish found in the cuisines of southern Germany. This dish is made out of soft noodles and sauce. This is one of Germany's favorite dishes.

Germany's favorite dessert is, Black Forest Mini Pies. These mini pies include crumbled chocolate chip cookies, which serve as the crust. They also have layers of chocolate pudding, cherry filling, grated chocolate and whipped cream.

Germany is ranked 3rd in the world for their beer. Pils is the most popular type of beer consumed. That beer is produced in Berlin.

Germany is the largest music market in the Europe and the third largest in the world. German is also home to the most music composers in the nation.

Martin Luther, the Protestant reformer, who first decorated the Christmas tree with lighted candles. The tradition was to bring the tree into the house on Christmas Eve and decorate the tree after the family dinner.

Oktoberfest is the worlds largest volksfest. Oktoberfest is annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It runs from Saturday, September 16 - Tuesday, October 3. Oktoberfest is a big fair where people dress up and drink A LOT of Oktoberfest beer. Over 6 million people from around the world come to Germany for Oktoberfest.

Fussball is the most famous sport in Germany. It consists of football and soccer mixed. The German fussball team recently holds the win of the World Cup in Brazil.
Christianity. About 65% to 70% of the population are followers of the Christian religion in Germany.

History and Famous People

Adolf Hitler was Germany's most infamous dictator. He was the cause of the death of 6 million Jews in the Holocaust. Hitler marked his stamp on world war 2. Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945 in Berlin, Germany.

The Berlin Wall completely separated the west side of Berlin from the east side. It was constructed in 1961 and took down 1990. The Berlin Wall was officially referred to as the Anti-Fascist Protective Wall .

Johann S. Bach was a famous composer of music from 1685-1750. Johann Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany.

Ludwig V. Beethoven was a famous composer of music from 1770-1827. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. Ludwig V. Beethoven was also deaf.

Marlene Dietrich was a German actress and singer who held both German and American citizenship. Marlene was born 1901 -1992.
