Run Local Shop Notebook January 2019 Issue

“nothing changes day to day, but you look back and everything is different…” - C.S. Lewis

A new year and so it begins, the recycled parade of influences and influencers that tell us that by the earth completing its orbit means we are given another chance to improve our lives, change who we are, and fulfill the goals we couldn’t get to in the midst of the previous orbit. Time to hit the reset button on spending more time with family, being more positive, losing weight, eating healthy, reading more, or one of the many other aspects of our lives we feel need improvement. What b*llsh*t.

The truth is the beginning of the year doesn’t mean anything. Most people understand that time is linear but choose to look at it as cyclical. They believe that everything starts over on January 1st, when in reality, the last day of 2018 and the first of 2019 aren’t really any different. Your habits and the theme of your life lead you to where you are. You’re now in a point in your life that was created because of the things you do in day to day life.

Shift your idea away from the resolutions and instead be mindful of the overall themes that you’ve created around your life. You should enter 2019 with zero pressure on your back to do anything other than remain open to the possibility of your potential, receptive to change and ready to allow yourself to get into some mischief now and then.

No resolutions please. (mural by Leta Sobierajski for DTLA)

ON MY SHOPPING LIST...FOR THE OFFICE SPACE

Woven Grey storage baskets are designed and handcrafted in Oakland, California by Kathleen Heafey. I love the natural textures and minimal colors. I'm thinking these organizing vessels will be a perfect fit for the new office space.

Love this set of pencils by Paper Pastries out of Glendale, California. In case your wondering, most of our events are planned in pencil, never pen.

I'm obsessed with all the cute air plants and pots from Fractal Flora in San Jose, California. My number one all time favorite planter is their T-Rex Air Planter. Since I'm aiming for serious office space to inspire serious work, I'm going to go with my second favorite, the mini concrete pot.

I love everything that glass artist, Janel Foo makes in her Los Angeles, California studio. I can't wait to get distracted by one of her pieces on a sunny San Francisco day.
