WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MARYVILLE COLLEGE vs. LAGRANGE COLLEGE

THINGS TO WATCH:

  • Maryville College is looking for their first win of the season, as the Scots have played tough competition through their first five games. MC has been battle tested, taking on a pair of Top-25 nationally ranked squads including No. 5 Thomas More. The Scots look for their first USA South win today, as well, as they fell to Huntingdon College, 82-65, last night in MC's conference opener.
  • Klaire Varney (13) and Libby Gardner (3) both scored 20 points in last night's loss to the Hawks. Varney neared a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the Scots. MC improved their long-range shooting against Huntingdon, as they bucketed a total of seven in the game.
  • For LaGrange, it's a total team effort, as the Panthers have seen nine different players average at least three points per contest this season. The key threat is Marilauren Farr who's averaging a double-double of 14.7 points and 10.3 rebounds through LaGrange's first seven games. The senior forward is shooting 46.6 percent from the floor and is part of the key success LC has in the paint.
  • Stopping the Panthers down low will be crucial for Maryville's success. LaGrange has amassed just over 42 percent of their season points from the paint. The Panthers have scored 174 of their 413 points from close range, as they have had a pair 38-point efforts in the paint.
  • LaGrange is also fresh off a USA South Athletic Conference loss last night. The Panthers fell to conference favorites Berea College, 69-59, in Berea, Ky.
"LaGrange has enjoyed some early season success, as their record indicates. Lee will no doubt have his team prepared and excited about playing. They are getting scoring balance and inside-out play right now that will present challenges on both ends of the floor. I expect another tough battle in this great rivalry."
