This Magic Moment At intergenerationAL prom, LHS students create magic with Livingston's senior citizens.

On prom night, in a brightly decorated school cafeteria created for "This Magic Moment," Livingston’s seniors were forever young.

... and then it happened
Livingston's seniors stepped out to the dance floor to Jitterbug and Electric Slide, with the high school students trying to keep up step by step. All the dance moves were captured on film by LTV. In addition to dancing, local businesses and groups donated dozens of door prizes. The Livingston Education Association contributed the colorful sunglasses and entertainment.

Livingston has been bringing the young -- and young at heart -- together for the past 29 years. The event was created as a learning experience to allow the students and seniors to socialize, have fun, and get to know one another. There was live music from LHS jazz band and a sing-a-long that invited the group to take a stroll down memory lane.

"It's the students, of course, that make this place magical," said Principal Mark Stern.

Volunteers and community leaders worked their magic to put the prom together, this spring for the 29th consecutive year.

It takes a village to put on a prom and Livingston has quite the village.

This year’s theme, “This Magic Moment,” featured a set designed by Brian Megaro and stage craft students, where memories of the evening were preserved with classic prom photographs. Shown from top, Bunnie Ratner, prom committee chairperson; Corrine Olson and Liliana Branquinho (with Skip Skip Van de Vaarst); Superintendent of Schools Christina Steffner and Mayor Shawn R. Klein; Councilman Michael M. Silverman (with guest); LHS Principal Mark Stern (with Walter Joyce in Lancer green); Livingston Board of Education members, Buddy August, Ronnie Konner, Samantha Messer, Superintendent Christina Steffner, Pam Chirls, and George Shen.

The community leaders served dinner for about 180 guests. Shown ready to serve are Michael Silverman, Ronnie Konner, Pam Chirls, and Acting Township Manager Russell A. Jones Jr. Michael Fassbender and Nicole Cooper of Aramark provided the catering. Former mayors Michael Silverman, Alfred M. Anthony, Rudy Fernandez. The high school crew Pritt Mankikar, Giovanna McCorkell, Patricia Mattia, Principal Stern, Martha Ackermann.

The crowning moment of the evening is the naming of prom King and Queen. This year Eileen Deng, the president of the Key Club, and Dr. Fred Friedman, a senior active in many Livingston programs, were chosen for the honor.
