Apple Teacher and Apple Distinguished Educator Program

Apple Teacher Program

Online professional learning now available through the Apple Teacher program. You can earn badges on iPads, Macs and Swift (coding). There are iBooks available for you to read and learn, and then a 5 question quiz to earn each badge. These badges also connect to how you can use iPads in the classroom. For more information, check out this link: http://www.apple.com/education/apple-teacher/

Apple Distinguished Educator Program

Applications to join the Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) program are now open (close 15th Feb). Some information about this program is available in the link here: http://www.apple.com/education/apple-distinguished-educator/ Applications for this program involve firstly being an Apple Teacher and then completing a video application and a detailed online application. If you are interested please see me, I'm a member of the ADE class of 2015 and would be happy to discuss the program with you further.

What’s new with Google?

Class Assignments

You create an assignment in the class stream. While you’re creating an assignment, you can save a draft and assign it at a later date, or schedule it to post at a later date. After students complete and turn in their work, you can grade and return it to the students. https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6020265

Customise your notifications

As a teacher in Classroom, you can set up notifications for certain activities. You can also customize how you receive notifications on your mobile device. https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6141557

Differentiate work assignments

Classroom now makes it a lot easier for teachers to assign work to individual students and groups based on their unique needs. As you're creating an assignment, post or question, you can choose whether to share it with the entire class or just with a group of students. https://www.blog.google/topics/education/new-google-classroom-features-make-it-easier-learn-teach-manage-and-build/

iPads @ MCC in 2017?

My goal for 2017 is to consolidate eLearning program further. This is our third year with iPads, but our first with senior students engaging with them in the classroom. There has been so many great examples of how iPads have been used by you all. Many of you have tried different ways of delivering content, collecting work, providing feedback, utilising formative assessment tools, having students create tasks, etc. Hopefully this year we can choose what we felt worked really well and improve what needed attention.

My goal is to continue to provide PL opportunities (from the basics to the advanced, wherever you are please tell me what you want to learn and I will endeavour to help you), engage in some more of my own PL to bring back to everyone, and also provide more connections with how the iPads can support the work we are doing with Cultures of Thinking.
