RACE HIGHLIGHTS January 2020

The start of the new year has ushered in a lot of excitement at Club Spring Mountain! To kick off 2020, we implemented our first ever 6-month mini-series, which will run from January through June. This allows us to then start a full-length 10-month race series from September 2020 through June 2021, so the summer hiatus will no longer fall in the middle of the series. A few other changes were implemented as well, including edits to the official rules and some new themed dinner nights!

January’s race weekend was a brisk one out on the Fittipaldi (G) 3.2-mile course, but our drivers made sure to keep their cars revved and ready. We had 14 Prototype drivers out on track for both days of racing, along with 13 Sports Car drivers on Friday and 12 on Saturday. This weekend we saw multiple intense battles between our drivers, making it an exhilarating start to the season! We also had several new track records in the Prototype and Sports Car divisions, setting the bar of what’s to come in the following months. Additionally, we would like to offer a warm welcome to Michael Greenberg II (Sports Car GT4 class), who raced with us for the first time this weekend! It was great to see Kristin Saroyan back on the track as well, who also raced in the GT4 class.

Friday night was the first of 5 themed events planned for 2020. Our event this month was a Dart Tournament in honor of our superb Executive Chef and dart expert, Joseph Verzani. Everyone played the game of 501, where each team started with a score of 501 points and raced to 0. It was a hard-fought battle, but ultimately club member Chris Souliotis and Blue Marble Cocktails representative Glen Meinecke took the dart championship title and won some awesome Spring Mountain swag. Congrats Chris and Glen!

As always, thank you to our members for all of your support and for a great start to our 2020 mini racing series! Special thanks our sponsors Blue Marble Cocktails and Cabinets by Hayley, as well as Spring Mountain Racing and all of our amazing staff who made our first race weekend of the year such a success!
