RACE HIGHLIGHTS January 2019

There is a lot to look forward to in 2019! With all the changes happening around property, it was only fitting that our CSM Race Series got a revamp as well! (You can check out the changes in each division as you scroll through each section.) Along with the changes to the series, we also welcomed our new Race Director, Spring Mountain Driving Instructor, Richie Hearn. Richie has many years of experience and has already brought new ideas to the table.

We would like to welcome back a familiar face, Erik Davis, who did exceptionally well in the LSR2 class. It was also great to see new members, Chris Souliotis (LSR3) and Scott Gibson (Sports Car GT3 class in his Lotus) for the weekend. It was Gibson’s first time at Spring Mountain and his first time on track! Also, the father son duo of Indy Al and AJ Miller shared the podium for the first time together this weekend. It was AJ’s first race weekend in the LSR3 class since graduating from the Rookie class last season.

Sports Car Series

The series in the past was reserved for Miata and MX5 cars only, but we have modified the series to include more of your sports cars! Throughout the year we are proposing 4 race weekends that will feature Time Attack racing (does not have to be a race prepped car). Another 4 months during the year we will feature Wheel to Wheel racing in which a race prepped car will be mandatory in order for you to participate. And finally, we will designate 2 race weekends to be Miata/MX5 weekends only, in which those weekends will not award points to go toward the Time Attack and Wheel-to-Wheel Championships.

Each race weekend is an opportunity for our sports cars to get more track time on the larger tracks, just as you’ve requested. Although there will no longer be a Miata/MX5 series – those cars do fall into one of the Sports Car categories and can still be competitive. Classes are power to weight based with modifiers for the class of tire used.
