Pen recycling project

In Year 5 we have been learning about plastic pollution. We all wrote a letter to our local MP, Alex Chalk to explain how strongly we feel about plastic pollution and suggested ways to solve the problem.

We also made videos showing the effects of plastic pollution. Here is one example that might make you think!

We learnt that plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to the world. Over 6.3bn tonnes of plastic waste had been generated globally by 2015 and 5.3 trillion pieces of plastic are afloat on the ocean. It has been predicted that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. At CKJS we want to help stop this major, tragic problem.

CKJS is becoming a collection point for all sorts of plastic pens, highlighters and correction fluid bottles. We would be grateful if you could bring your broken and used up pens to CKJS reception. You could drop off a box full of pens when you have collected them. When our pen box is full, we will send them to TerraCycle who will recycle them. It will also help charities because for every shipment we send over 15kg, TerraCycle will donate some money to charity.

You can recycle any of the following plastic items:

We know that you would love to help us with our project. All you need to do is collect your used up pens and give them to CKJS reception. By doing this we can all play our part in saving our natural world.
