Welcome back to a brand new year full of possibilities and potential! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday with family and friends and that you're ready to get back to the business of learning! Our staff are all excited to welcome back students this week and have been busy planning engaging and fun activities to enhance learning at MAPS.
On our final day before the holidays we said goodbye to two wonderful staff members. Kaitlin Davidson, an amazing Educational Assistant, said farewell after 4 months on staff working with our younger students. We appreciated her calm, kind and patient demeanour and wish her well in her new endeavours. Replacing Ms Davidson and returning to work after a maternity leave will be Robin Mills. We're all looking forward to working with Ms Mills and wish her luck on this new chapter in her career.
We also said goodbye to our wonderful secretary Margo Omstead. Mrs. Omstead was a familiar face at MAPS for 9 years and her absence in the office and school will be felt for some time to come. Mrs Omstead always had a kind word and a caring manner with all students who will miss her greatly. Her position has yet to be filled so stay tuned for more updates!
On December 16th, the entire staff and student body were treated to a wonderful Holiday Dinner provided by an anonymous donor. Our amazing Student Congress wanted to make this a very special event and decided that we should all eat together and dress up! We had a Formal Friday spirit day as well and once the gym was decorated, the tables set, and the holiday music playing, it was definitely as they envisioned ~ a very special event. Special thanks to parent volunteers for serving the dinner and to the Knights of Columbus for preparing and delivering the meal to us as well. It was definitely a memorable afternoon.
Toy & Food Drive
For two weeks prior to the holiday break, our Student Congress organized a toy and food drive to help provide a wonderful Christmas to families in our area. With the help of our very generous families and staff, Congress surpassed their 1,000 item goal and collected over 1,200 food items to donate. In addition, each class collected items for the toy drive with the help of family members. Thank you to all who helped to make this Drive such a huge success!
