ELAINE LAU MUD MIRAGE

Pottery/Ceramics

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change” - Dr. Wayne Dyer

Elaine Lau keeps the above quote firmly in mind when making her ceramics. She uses its premise as a guide because we never know who we’re making art for at the point of creating! For the past 5 years Elaine has learnt to create from her heart versus her head and focusses on the act of making for enjoyment rather than marketing. Her internal influence is her yoga practice and externally, nature, from walks on trails and from her garden. From these influences she creates decorative, functional pieces with carving being a favourite mode of production. She tends to leave her work in the natural colour of the clay therefore allowing the carving to speak for itself but still enjoys occasionally decorating in colour for un-carved pieces. Though the above quote appears more philosophical, it does intertwine with the discipline of art: look upon art with curious, kind eyes.

About the North Shore Art Crawl

Each spring, The North Shore Art Crawl celebrates the talent of local artists, as local studios, community and commercial galleries, and art schools, open their doors to the public to display their work and share their passion. This year, the 2021 Online North Shore Art Crawl is a month-long virtual event from March 12 - April 12, 2021. You are invited to scroll and swipe your way across the North Shore, exploring artist webpages showcasing creative processes, practices and exhibitions.
