Happening This Week
As a Pastor, I took great comfort in knowing I was not alone on stage Sunday morning. Jesus, the risen Savior, was standing there with me.
Now, it's doubtful His presence was meant to announce perfection from the platform. Rather, Jesus stood with me more for my benefit. There were messages that fell on deaf ears and hard hearts. There were messages I new would challenge people I loved to become different than they were. Some of my messages even took on the politics and morality of the present secular culture--a culture some of my people fully embraced!
I needed Jesus!
Furthermore, every Sunday I was confronted with my frailty, inadequacy, limitations, and spiritual depravity. Sometimes my emotions were a mess, my tongue tied, my body sick, my countenance troubled. There were times when hours of study did not produce a message until just before I walked on stage.
But Jesus stood with me!
Now, lest you think this about about my confessions as a Pastor, let me place something in your lap to consider. Jesus was not ashamed or afraid to stand by me in my imperfections! And Jesus has no problem standing by you, no matter how insignificant or limited you think you are.
The Potter is, right now, using His hands and your circumstances to shape you. More than that, your Father has given you His knowledge and resources so you can do what He requires. We often say we need to lean into God. But did you know that in spite of your broken self, God is leaning into YOU? His posture toward you is the reason you are never alone.
For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves. (2 Corinthians 4:6–7)
Many of our students, many of you, will be involved this weekend in real ministry to others. You may feel inadequate for the questions you will field, the tasks your Pastor has asked you to perform, the platform you have been given. YOU ARE! But you are NOT ALONE.
And we know God's plan from the beginning was display His glory through you! We thank God for you. Rely on His strength, and go in His name!
