May in music By Jack Shapiro

May has come and gone, but it has not only left us with warm weather. It has also brought us songs and albums that have reached the top charts.

The first album to talk about is Logic’s third studio album “Everybody.” Diving into his biracial background along with his past milestones and obstacles that he has encountered. Logic really hit his stride on this album. He had multiple songs that pleased his fans and the rest of the hip-hop crowd.

Some top songs on the album were “Everybody” and “1-800-273-8255.” Logic was able to bring in different artists such as Juicy J, Alessia Cara and Khalid. These collaborations undoubtedly helped out the album. The duo of Alessia Cara and Khalid really helped out the song “1-800-273-8255” boasting it to number 62 on the Billboard hot 100.

Another strong album this past month was from Bryson Tiller “True to Self.” Tiller was really on his game for this release. This is only Tiller’s second album and he is definitely making his way in the hip-hop world. What was really impressive on this album is the fact that Tiller did not have one artist featured on this album.

Tiller has multiple songs on this new album that have caught listeners ears. Some of his top songs from the album are “Self-Made” which has a great beat and catchy tone to it. Another tune that is a chart-topper is “Run Me Dry.” This track is a bit slower and much more similar to his last album “Trapsoul.” Although the song has a slower beat to it, it is still a great jam with strong lyrics to it.

An album that was not a chart-topper in May was Gucci Mane’s “Droptopwop.” Mane has now released two albums in the past six months. The most recent however is not nearly as good as his past albums.

Although “Droptopwop” is not incredibly intriguing, the album does have a good song on it, “Met Gala.” This track features Offest, another rapper in the business.

Many songs on this album are swings and misses for Gucci Mane. “Loss 4 Wrdz” is one of them where Gucci doesn’t deliver a powerful beat and/or lyrics. “Helpless” is also a miss for Gucci. The song does include a nice beat but it isn’t a song that you would put on your playlist.

The last album that received attention last month was Lil Yachty’s “Teenage Emotion.” This album was relatively enjoyable, where Lil Yachty was able to release entertaining singles but was not able to back it up with the additional tracks on the album.

Songs such as “Harley” and “Peek a Boo” were two of the top songs on the album. They were both fast paced rap songs that were engaging and fast. “Bring it Back” was one of the singles released before the albums which was relatively enjoyable. Instead of rapping throughout the entire song, Yachty delivers a slower song with a catchy beat and catchy lyrics. “Teenage Emotions” also features rappers such as Migos, YG, and Diplo.

May has brought the music world with lots of new quality music. Hopefully June brings us high caliber music that excites music fans everywhere.
