Lisbon INC gives me the opportunity to explore my interests that I would not normally get to pursue.

Featured Project of the Week

Raspberry Pi - So far we have three INCers working with Raspberry Pi coding 1980s type computer games. Students are learning Python, a widely used programming language, to get started. They have plans on the table to create a digital calendar for the Lisbon INC space and to create their own arcade games.

“Coding is fun, but challenging AND difficult.” That’s how sophomore Evan Clausen described his first day of learning Python code. “I really like it, though. Although it’s difficult, I want to keep learning it.”

“We had some issues just setting up the Raspberry PIs. Nothing hard core… I was able to do some research and figure things out. That’s a good feeling when I figure it out on my own,” said junior Dan Dillinger. “We decided to start with the old style arcade games just to get a sense of how Python works. It’s simple enough to understand for beginners, but it’s also used by professional programmers. It’s interesting to me.”

Sophomore Samantha Back expressed a passion for coding her freshman year in a Computer Tech class. “I wanted to be challenged, so I asked if I could learn HTML & CSS while the others were learning Scratch. Coding is like magic to me. I type in a bunch of letters and numbers and can create something really awesome. It’s so cool when it works! It's like magic!!!”

Project Updates

Vintage Sports Gear

Sophomore Skylar Sadler and senior Jensen Smith have tackled the inventorying and sales of the decommissioned sports gear from Lisbon sports programs. “We were asked to set up an online store to sell old Lisbon sports uniforms. We photographed and inventoried all the items, decided on pricing and created a Facebook album,” explained sophomore Skylar Sadler. The next step is promoting the sale and getting people fired up about wearing retro. "We have some cool items for great prices!" said Jensen Smith. "Check them out on Facebook!"

Video Production Projects

INCers met with RCL Marketing Director Amy VanderVaart on February 14 to tour the facility, discuss the script, and start planning the taping. After the early March commercial is finished, a promotional video featuring aerial drone photography is planned. We’re excited to be a part of the new center opening in Lisbon!

In addition to the work at RCL, the video production team is pitching their aerial photography to local farmers, contractors, realtors, and eastern Iowa golf courses. If you have questions about our services, contact us at lisboninc@lisbon.k12.ia.us.
