A Different Kind of Classroom SUSQUEHANNA WALDORF SCHOOL'S 2018 CLASS TRIPS

THE EXPERIENCES OF THE CLASS TRIPS, AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT OF THE WALDORF CURRICULUM, MAY BE OVER BUT THE IMPACT LASTS A LIFETIME. IT IS THIS DIRECT OBSERVATION, PARTICIPATION AND IMMERSION IN THE WORLD THAT IS THE HALLMARK OF EDUCATION BY DOING.

Class 1 Ignites Imagination in the Gnome Countryside

Class 1 experiences the Gnome Countryside, where the shared legends of little people from around the world are used as a launching pad for environmental education, awareness and respect.

Class 2 Visits Heritage Creek Farm Camp & Education Center

Planting the seeds for the future, on so many levels! Class 2's final field trip of the year to Heritage Creek Farm Camp & Education Center gives students a taste of the third grade curriculum on farming and gardening. Students even exclaimed, "I LOVE to weed!"

Class 3 Visits Pearlstone Center in Maryland

for team building, farm to table activites, zipline, and more!

Class 4 Camps at Ricketts Glen

and explores one’s physical place on earth through local history and geography, experiencing spectacular waterfalls, coal mines and what it's like to camp in the rain!

Class 5 Experiences the Pocono Environmental Education Center

Class 6 Gets a Taste of the Big Apple

Along with a vertical tour of St John's of the Divine Cathedral, where they lit a candle for their class, a Broadway performance, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Chinatown.

Class 7 Visits Camp Swatara

Along with hiking, camping, and experiencing the natural environment, students also participated in team building exercises and games with Class 6.

"The years of childhood are the time to prepare the soil. Once the emotions have been aroused - a sense of the beautiful, the excitement of the new and the unknown, a feeling of sympathy, pity, admiration or love - then we wish for knowledge about the object of our emotional response. Once found, it has a lasting meaning. It is more important to pave the way for a child to WANT to know than to put him on a diet of facts he is not ready to assimilate."
