Just staying in town, there are lots of opportunities to get active. Appleton has several parks. There's Riverside Park, which contains picnic shelters, a playground, restrooms and access to different trails, as well as a fun disc golf course. You can even get discs for free from Don's Food Pride!
There's also a beautiful bandstand in Riverside Park, where summer music series are held, and performances for town events! It's even a great place for kids to let their imaginations run wild, and pretend they're a ballerina or rock star.
Not too far away is the Pomme de Terre River, and a walking and biking trail runs along side. It's a fun and active way to take in the beauty of the Appleton area.
Also in town, just off state highway 7/59, there is the Municipal Campground, which hosts camping, fishing, canoe and trail access, and picnic shelters (all of which has been renovated recently). It's the perfect place to stay if you want to experience the town and the outdoors all at once!
To really kick your outdoor activity into gear, there's always the Appleton OHV Park, located only two miles northeast of Appleton on Highway 59. It is 330 acres for ATVs, Off-Highway Motorcycles, and Off-Road Vehicles. The admission is free, and it's open during daylight hours, seven days a week, as long as your OHV is registered!
If you want to attend a great event at the Appleton OHV park, come to Prairie Thunder Off-Road Rally! It's an annual event that features a mud run, a 4x4 rock climb, blindfolded barrel races, guided trail rides, bonfires, music and so much more!
