Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Yann Martel was born on June 25th,1963 in Salamanca, Spain. Yann is a Canadian author best known for the Life of Pi. He also wrote The High Mountains of Portugal, Beatrice and Virgil. Yann completed an undergraduate degree in philosophy at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. Life of Pi is filled with metaphors and life lessons, so the fact that he was a philosophy major doesn't surprise me!

The setting takes place in India

Pi's family decides to sell the zoo animals and goes on a voyage to canada from India. There is a storm during this trip and Pi gets thrown overboard and wake up with a hyena, a zebra ,and orangutan with him. The hyena eats eats the zebra and eats the orangutan named orange juice. The tiger eats the hyena. Pi goes through conflict with the tiger and learning to trust him on the boat. At first, Pi is scared of the tiger because of all the things his dad said about how dangerous they are, and after witnessing the other animals get destroyed. I like this book because it has a lot of hidden messages behind it, like how the tiger messed up all the other animals but he was only protecting Pi. Meanwhile, Pi was scared for his life of the tiger.
