Mission Updates October, 2020

Praise God for Pastor Zechariah Arni, who ministers to a congregation of Ethiopian Messianic Jews in Haifa, Israel!

Pastor Zechariah's congregation faces racism and religious discrimination due to their skin color and ethnic heritage, and also because they have received Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah.

Praise - Pastor Zechariah's congregation has been reaching out to the church and community during this time of Covid lockdowns and tension. Many families have more than one child, and since all the children in Israel are studying by Zoom at least 2 days a week, many children are unable to "attend" classes. They are attempting to provide a second computer for families in need.

Prayer Request - Please pray for provision and open doors to share the gospel through this outreach! Please contact us if you would like to be a part - kellyb@cwccs.org.

"Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit," says the LORD Almighty. Zechariah 4:6

Compassion Sunday - September 12 & 13

Praise God for the 13 children sponsored through Compassion Weekend at Calvary Worship Center.

Please pray for Bernard, Moses, and the other children to grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

Lebanon and Northern Iraq

Please pray for Mike, our missionary to Lebanon and Northern Iraq, as he is traveling there now.

Prayer Requests:

  • The national team in Lebanon, who are working to assist the victims of the recent explosion in Beirut plus the many refugees that were already living in Lebanon.
  • Mike's visiting team, who will minister to the national team through encouragement, time in the Word, and by serving alongside them through October 6.
  • Opportunities to minister to those suffering from trauma and depression. Many want to share their own stories, and are also more open than usual to hearing the Good News.
  • Scheduled meetings with leaders in the Lebanese Army and possibly the government to discuss bringing 1000 Joni & Friends wheelchairs into the port.
  • Scheduled meetings in Northern Iraq with Kurdish Regional Government ministers to discuss pressing needs: education and religious freedom and protection for Christians, Yazidi, and other minorities.
  • For God to call US volunteers and team members skilled in bookkeeping or accounting, education, video editing, and social media.
Central Asia

Please continue to pray for Matt & Jonna and their 4 children, who are on furlough from Central Asia. Pray for deep rest and restoration and a renewal of hope. Please pray:

  • for their lost friends, especially "Danny", to run to Jesus for refuge and rescue from the wrath to come.
  • for online schooling as they attempt to do it from the other side of the world with a huge time difference, a toddler, and several transitions from state to state.
  • for purposeful times of rest, reflection, and restoration, and for the Father to meet with them and minister to the deep places of their hearts.
  • for them to be completely surrendered to the Father and his leading for the future. “My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber.” Psalm 121:2&3
  • for precious times of bonding and building up for their extended families as they experience the joy of being together.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Makanfi & Abraham

Praise God for His Safe Haven (HSH) and their influence on Liberia as they minister to families of children with special needs.

Thank God for Makanfi and her son, Abraham (pictured above). Abraham has cerebral palsy. Makanfi is Muslim but has joined HSH for morning therapy classes. Please pray HSH is able to minister to her and share the Gospel with her!

...rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer... Romans 12:12

Matt & Noelle Harris - Uganda

Praise God for Matt & Noelle Harris, and their ministry in Gulu, Uganda! Praise God for:

  • the transition of the medical clinic out of their care and oversight to another ministry which has successfully operated 26 clinics in Northern Uganda.
  • their continued care for the pastors in their pastoral school. Even though the ministry has had to stop meeting in large groups for Bible classes, God has provided a way! They divided the class up into 6 small groups which meet at different locations at different times. Each student is given a student handbook a week in advance of their meeting to prepare them for the main points. Then the small groups meet for 2 days to watch a prerecorded teaching. They are then guided by 2 teachers to further understand the book, and then take their test on that book of the Bible.

Please pray:

  • for the pastoral school as they continue to meet in this new way, that the teachers will be dedicated to discipleship and the students will have hearts and minds ready to receive.
  • for the medical clinic and community as they change to new medical management October 1. For peace and clear blessings early in the transition.
  • for Matt & Noelle, as well as their children (Emma, Madeline, and Noah), and the new baby to come later this month. For them to weather all the changes in culture, diet, time zones, and new social aspects. For peace, health, and wisdom in this new environment.
  • for precious times of bonding and building up for their extended families as they experience the joy of being together.

But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7

Eddie Broussard - Global Ministry with the Navigators

Praise God for Eddie Broussard's successful knee replacement surgery last month!

Please pray:

  • for continued progress in Eddie's rehab for flexibility and strength in his new knee joint.
  • for rest and good sleep as Eddie heals from the surgery. For God to give new insights and freedom and joy to Eddie & Barbie during this time!
  • wisdom in scheduling the next surgery to replace his other knee.
Bob Simons - Vicente Guerrero

Praise God for Bob & Esperanza Simons:

  • Bob's continued faithfulness teaching Greek and Biblical Interpretation through Zoom to a class in Vicente Guerrero, Mexico!
  • God opened doors for Bob to also record a weekly podcast for a church near Bogota' Colombia.
  • Esperanza has been recording discipleship messages in Spanish to be distributed to believers wanting to grow in spiritual knowledge and maturity.
  • Esperanza's brother, Alberto, has struggled with his health for several months. He is currently in a hospital in Bucaramanga but is improving.

Please pray for:

  • continued open doors to teach and encourage the body of Christ.
  • an open door to travel to Colombia for an intensive theology course for pastors in Samaniego.
  • Alberto's continued physical and spiritual health.
Juarez, Mexico

Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Nolan & Marie Schockey and the men they lead in Juarez, Mexico!

Thank you for your work covering Spanish Bibles with camouflage duct tape. We've already sent a few down, and Marie said the men shared - Awesome! They really feel like they’re special just for them! They are happy receiving them. One guy took his chargers out of his front pockets and put them in his backpack so he could put his Bible in his front pocket and he said, "Now I’m ready, I have my full armor on."

Juarez, Mexico

Your giving also provided more rice and beans and oil and other supplies for the people of Juarez, Mexico. Please pray all the food sent blesses and encourages the church and brings many to Christ for the Bread of Life!
