Welcome back. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family and friends and made the most of some lovely weather.
Congratulation to Mrs Gillian Peterson and Mrs Emily Mason who have been appointed as Junior School Deputy Principals. Gillian has made the move from a leadership position at Point View School and Emily has been at Chapel Downs for 15 Years. The Board was fortunate to appoint two candidates with a wealth of leadership and teaching experience.
We are very pleased to report our roll is growing rapidly and last month Mrs Rene Ganley opened a new entrant room in our brand new classroom A0. Last term the students all enjoyed watching real team work as contractors used a huge crane to lift the new classroom onsite.
Thanks to everyone who attended Mrs Crichton's retirement assembly and took time to acknowledge Pam's outstanding contribution to our learning community.
Year 3 Learn to Swim Programme
We are very pleased to again report that the Field of Dreams Foundation has selected our Year 3 students for free swimming lessons at the Otara Leisure Centre. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to be taught to swim in small groups with trained instructors. This term the programme involves all Year 3 students and will run every Friday.
Year Two & Year Three Auckland Zoo Visit
As part of our Science inquiry Year Two and Year Three students are investigating animals. Last week students visited the Auckland Zoo. A huge thanks to all the parents who gave up their precious time to support our children.
On Thusday 6th June Parent /Teacher Interviews will be held in our School Hall. This is the time when you and your child meet with their class teacher and receive their mid year report.
We welcome you to attend the Parent Teacher Interviews where we look forward to sharing your child’s progress, achievements and to set learning and disposition goals for the year.
This term senior school students are working on developing their running skills and building fitness. Every second week students have a cross country practise to prepare for the big event at the end of term 2.
Our Senior School Cross Country Event will be held on Thursday 4 July, starting at 1.45pm out on the field. Parents are welcome to come along and support our students.
We have an action packed sporting month for our Chapel Downs athletes. Last Friday our hockey team represented us at the Papatoetoe Tournament. On Wednesday 24th May our netball team will play in the Otara Schools tournament at Lloyd Elsmore.
National Young Leaders Day
Last week our House Captains all attended the National Young Leaders Day Conference at the Vodafone Events Centre. The students all had the opportunity to hear a range of inspirational speakers and were entertained by Kings.
