Newsletter Friday 1ST May 2020

Headteacher Comment

I hope you enjoy our new look Newsletter! As learning is online, our teacher meetings are all online and even our Celebration Assembly is via Zoom, it made sense to have a new format newsletter that takes advantage of everything that being online offers too.

I hope you’ve had a chance to watch this week’s Celebration Assembly with your children – I think you’ll agree that it does capture the spirit of Greenfields, even if we are temporarily apart. Congratulations to all the Stars of the Week and to Ted Green for winning the prize for guessing where all the teachers were.

You will remember that in last week’s newsletter I thanked you for all the hard work you have been doing at home, so I’ve been having a look across the Google Classrooms and I have been delighted to see so much creativity in the children’s home learning and examples of that are in this newsletter.

Thank you again for everything you are doing and, please remember that Greenfields is still here to help, so if you would like some support with your child’s learning at home, please let your child’s class teacher know when they call you, or call the school office 9.00 am – 3.00 pm (mon-fri).

Northamptonshire Education Awards 2020

You may remember that last year Greenfields Primary School and Nursery won Primary School of the Year at the Northamptonshire Education Awards 2019. We were so proud of this fabulous recognition of our school. The Northamptonshire Education Awards 2020 will be hosted on 17th July at Wicksteed Park and parents are now able to nominate their child's school. Lots of our staff and parents are not only working from home, but teaching their own children also. I am sure you can appreciate how difficult this can be! With that in mind we would love for you to nominate Greenfields Primary School and Nursery for our OUTSTANDING teaching.

Its MayDay!

The children in school enjoyed a early celebration for Mayday, they made flower crowns and decorated pictures of maypoles. They watched videos of different May Day celebrations around the world and lots of different Mayday dancing. In the afternoon they made and enjoyed fruit kebabs.

Make Someone Smile!

This week Year Five were given a secret mission to MAKE SOMEONE SMILE. They were asked to choose someone who is special to them and write them a special message to make them smile. Daisy put a note through a lonely neighbour’s door, and this is her holding her reply that her neighbour sent her back!

Lionnel slipped his note onto the back of his mum’s phone- what a lovely surprise for her!

Colours! Lots of Colours!

Dragonflies and Busy Bees have been exploring colour mixing, some have used paints to mix and make colours. Some have tried the Skittles experiment, putting a circle of skittles on a plate and adding warm water into the circle and waiting to see the colours!

This weeks Stars are:

  • Elya from Ladybirds
  • Oana from Dragonflies
  • Liam from Busy Bees
  • Oscar from Terrific Tigers
  • Jada from Happy Hyenas

Ladybirds Online Artwork

It's been a busy week for Ladybirds with their online learning, we've been using natural objects to create artwork, baked biscuits, carried out our own experiments, used our senses to explore how new textures feel, cast spells, made potions and been really thoughtful making cards or pictures for friends or relatives to say hello and cheer them up.

Virtual P.E.

Reception have been loving the DRET PE Challenges on Tapestry this week! They have been trying so hard to improve their skills. Keep it up everyone!

#Design a SuperBear

#Designasuperbear is a new and exciting competition that has been launched by John Lewis, in awe of the unimaginable work of the NHS. If you are looking for a reason to get involved, then look no further. The winning superhero teddy bear will be sold in John Lewis and Waitrose shops during the Christmas period, with 100% of the profits going to the incredible NHS. We are super excited because we know that our Greenfields pupils sit proudly amongst some of the most amazing and imaginative pupils ever. To enter the competition, you need to submit your superbear entry to designyoursuperbear@johnlewis.co.uk before 5pm on Friday 8th May 2020. Now, the excitement doesn’t stop there.
